Ecole Normale Supérieure-PSL is opening a short-term position for a Fellow in cognitive science of education for a contract of 3 years, renewable for 1 year, starting September 1, 2024. The Fellow will teach one course (30h of lecture) per semester within the CPES Multidisciplinary Undergraduate degree developed in partnership with the Lycée Henri IV. The Fellow must be able to adapt to a wide audience and teach in both French and English.

The Fellow will also be expected to develop original research in cognitive science of education, and to publish the results of his or her work in leading international journals. Research will be conducted at the LSCP, the Laboratory for cognitive science and psycholinguistics at the Department of Cognitive Studies of ENS-PSL. The position may serve as preparation for an application to a French institutional research center (such as CNRS or University) within or at the end of the 4 years.

Ecole Normale Supérieure -PSL University is one the top higher education and research institutions in France. Its Department of Cognitive Studies in one of the leading research centers in cognitive science in Europe. The Laboratoire de Sciences Cognitives and Psycholinguistique is a laboratory with 10 principal investigators and 6 teams . The Fellow will be hosted in one of the teams corresponding to his/her research profile, most likely the Cognitive development and pathology team led by Franck Ramus .

Skills/Qualifications

Candidates must hold a doctorate in cognitive science, psychology, neuroscience, or any relevant area. In addition, the candidate must have a well-established research and publication record, evidenced by at least one publication in an international peer-reviewed journal of high scientific standing. The successful candidate must meet the criteria to compete for national and international funding, and for French institutional research positions (CNRS or university).

The candidate must be able to demonstrate a good command of English and French to work and teach in both languages (the minimum level is C1 / C2 or native language for both English and French). Candidates must also have teaching experience and be able to demonstrate a taste for pedagogical innovation.

Main tasks
  • Research mission: The Fellow’s research will focus on one or more of the following themes: children's cognitive development, school learning, individual differences, school inequalities, and will employ experimental and/or observational methods from psychology, social and educational sciences, cognitive neuroscience or genetics. The successful candidate must meet the criteria to compete for national and international funding, and for French institutional research positions (CNRS, INSERM, or Université PSL). In particular, research experience will be evidenced by publications in international peer-reviewed journals in relevant disciplines.
  • Teaching duties: The fellow will set up one course (30 hours) per semester in cognitive science of education at the CPES and will supervise students' progress. Topics of particular interest include: developmental psychology, learning and memory, behavior management, teaching skills, evidence-based education and pedagogy.

Secondary tasks
  • Ensure individualized student follow-up;
  • Participate in various pedagogical activities (student evaluation, internship and dissertation supervision, participation in juries, etc.).
  • Use Moodle and Teams as software for disseminating teaching aids and exchanging information (PSL offers training in these programs if required).

Benefits

Remuneration will be based on seniority and experience, up to 3,281 euros gross per month (39,372 euros gross per year). The employment is a fixed-term contract for 3 years, renewable 1 year, for a maximum of 4 years.
