Offer Description

This position is open to work in the frame of an ERC advanced project named “HyArchi: Targeting Root Hydraulic Architecture to Improve Crops under Drought “. Research will be carried out in the group of Dr Christophe Maurel in the Institute for Plant Sciences of Montpellier (IPSiM) (CNRS/INRAE/ University of Montpellier, France).
The HyArchi project focuses on maize roots under water stress with the ultimate goal of optimizing water uptake. It explores novel aspects of their plasticity and will provide a multidimensional understanding of their water transport function, by considering the integration of hydraulic, growth and signaling processes within root architecture.

The aim of the post-doctoral researcher will be to conduct greenhouse phenotyping experiments (platform control and real-time data analysis) to determine the integrated function of novel genes that determine the hydraulic properties of maize seedling roots. These genes have been identified by Genome Wide Association (GWA), and corresponding CRISPR-Cas9 mutants or introgression lines are available. These plants will be evaluated for their response to soil drought using on-site high-resolution phenotyping facilities. The post-doctoral researcher will be expected to contribute to the use of experimental facilities and real-time data analysis. In particular, he/she will be required to carry out in-depth analysis of the data and images, in order to detect any alterations in the water status or growth of the genotypes studied.

This work is part of a collaboration between the Institute for Plant Sciences of Montpellier(IPSiM) (INRAE/CNRS/Institut Agro/Université de Montpellier) and the Montpellier Plant Phenotyping Platforms M3P collective scientific infrastructure (ISC), https://www6.montpellier.inra.fr/lepse/M3P of the UMR INRAE LEPSE.
