Offer Description

You want to contribute to an Horizon Europe projet ?

Join the Oceanic and Continental Environments and Palaeoenvironments laboratory (EPOC ) – University of Bordeaux!

This laboratory is a Research Unit under the joint supervision of the University of Bordeaux, the CNRS, Bordeaux INP and the Ecole Pratiques des Hautes Etudes.

EPOC is a multidisciplinary UMR developing strong and recognized expertise in ecotoxicology, ecology, biogeochemistry, environmental chemistry, sedimentology, palaeoclimatology, coastal oceanography, marine geosciences.

As part of the European project DuneFront, we are recruiting a Post-Doc whose study will focus on the observation and modeling of the evolution of Dune-Dike hybrid systems based on nature under wind and marine forcings.

Main activities :

The DuneFront (Horizon Europe) 'Demonstration of Dune-Dike hybrid blue-grey Nature-based Solutions' project aims to reduce coastal risks by optimizing solutions that use a combination of natural elements (dunes) and artificial hard structures (dykes). In this context it is necessary to process, analyze and model the evolutions of these systems on several workshop sites, or pilot sites (demonstrators) of the European coast and to implement measurement campaigns.

Your work will contribute to the advancement of knowledge on the morphodynamics of Dune-Dike hybrid systems in relation to the meteorological-marine forcing parameters specific to each of the 12 study sites. The mission concerns the processing of data (topography, hydrodynamic and wind processes) and their interpretation, the preparation of field campaigns and the use of a numerical model (AEOLIS) to extrapolate the observed evolutions. You will write some scientific articles during this work.

As such:

# Analyses of morphological changes on the 12 European demonstrators

  • You gather all the morphological and weather-marine forcing data collected by the project partners on the 12 demo sites distributed on the European coast and standardize the database
  • You quantify morphological changes and link them to changes in marine and wind conditions and to the characteristics of the dune-dike system

# Measurement campaign

  • You develop an experimental protocol of in situ measurement campaigns on hybrid dune-dike systems, with a particular focus on wind dynamics, during storm conditions and/or representative of modal conditions
  • You select 2 experimental sites and alert periods for deployments
  • You acquire and analyse wind flows and morphological changes in the dyke sector and compare them with a control site

# Modeling

  • You take charge and apply the Aeolis model on the 2 experimental sites and some European sites where the data on the evolutions have the greatest historical depth
  • You calibrate and validate this model and propose improvements if necessary
