Comprising eight public Grandes Écoles and two subsidiary schools, Institut Mines-Télécom fosters and develops a rich ecosystem of economic, academic, and institutional partners, all dedicated to higher education, research, innovation and economic development. As a member of Institut Mines-Télécom, Mines Saint-Étienne carries out missions of education, training, research, innovation, industrial transfer, and scientific culture. With 2,500 students, 500 staff members, and a budget of €50 million, it operates on three campuses dedicated to i) the industries of the future, ii) health and well-being, and iii) sovereignty in digital technology and microelectronics industries. It is ranked in the top 15 of French graduates schools of engineering and in the Top 500 of world universities. The 2023-2027 strategy of Mines Saint-Étienne contributes to that of Institut Mines-Telecom. Its ambitions are:

• To support and accompany ecological, digital, and generational transitions and train the actors involved in these transitions,

• To foster national and European sovereignty in microelectronics and digital technologies. To support this strategy, Mines Saint-Étienne is recruiting a junior faculty member in operational research and decision-aid.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The position available is for a Maitre de Conférences (permanent junior Faculty member) in operational research and decision-aid, assigned to the Training and Research Center “Centre Ingénierie et Santé” ; the research is carried out in the research units.

The Centre Ingénierie et Santé, located in Saint-Priest-en-Jarez (42) on the Campus Santé et Innovation, is one of the five training and research centers at Mines Saint-Etienne. It includes four departments and three platforms, including I4S (Ingénierie des Systèmes de Soins et de Santé) department in which the teaching will take place. This department has around twenty people, including 6 teacher-researchers, and a dozen research engineers, post-docs and doctoral students, almost all active in ODPS (Outils Décisionnels pour la Production et les Services) axis of the LIMOS (Laboratoire d'Informatique, de Modélisation et d'Optimisation des Systèmes).

The recruited person will align his/her research project with that of the ODPS axis of the Research Unit LIMOS LIMOS is a Joint Research Unit (UMR CNRS 6158) in computer science, and more generally in Information and Communication Sciences and Technologies. The scientific positioning of LIMOS is centered around Information Technology, Modeling and Optimization of Organizational and Living Systems. The activities of the ODPS axis concern Operations Management; that consists of making the best use of certain resources to carry out given activities, within the framework of complex organizational systems.

Rationale for recruitment:

The person recruited will mainly have to invest in the teaching provided by the I4S department of the program Ingénieur Civil des Mines, but also in master's, post-baccalaureate training or continuing education modules. The topics taught mainly focus on quantitative methods for decision support, with several applications related to health systems. The recruited person will have to carry out their research in the themes of the ODPS axis of LIMOS with a particular focus on health applications and integrating as much as possible into sustainable development issues. The intended contributions can be of three types: i) Identify new organizational issues for which models in the literature cannot be directly exploited, and propose suitable models; ii) understand the structural properties of these models; iii) overcome the limits of existing algorithmic schemes for these models. The targeted scientific skills focus on quantitative methods (e.g.: operational research, decision support) and data sciences (statistics, artificial intelligence) applicable to operational management and decision-making systems in health. Particular attention will be paid to experience in the field of health, in particular assistance with medical diagnosis and the evaluation of performance of care systems taking into account the economic dimension, and knowledge of health data.

The position is based on the campus of Saint-Étienne. Participation to activities operated by the other campuses of Mines Saint-Etienne and international collaborations are encouraged.
