Offer Description

CNRS has identified Educational Inequalities as one of the six major societal challenges in its 2019-2023 COP. The CNRS is the pilot of the Réseau Thématique (formerly GDR) CNRS "Research on education issues", one of whose axes focuses on educational inequalities. The CNRS is also co-pilot of the PPR Education, which has a major focus on digital education. The CNRS is also co-pilot of the GIS Autisme et trouble du neurodéveloppement.
With the CPJ InEdBiolDev, CNRS aims to develop research into educational inequalities due to individual vulnerabilities of biological origin, such as learning disabilities, and how to compensate for them.

The CPJ InEdBiolDev will be hosted by one among the two above mentioned joint research units (UMR). They are well renowned for their research on learning and education in children and/or adolescents. They have strong interactions with primary and secondary school teachers, thanks to partnerships with their respective academies. The CPJ's winner will choose to join either the Laboratoire d'Étude de l'Apprentissage et du Développement (LEAD, UMR5022, CNRS and Université de Bourgogne, http://leadserv.u-bourgogne.fr ) in Dijon, which studies changes in information processing processes as a result of learning (implicit, didactic and professional), the development of the individual (child, elderly person) and its disruptions (e.g., blindness, deafness, autism spectrum disorders, amusia, dyslexia); or the Centre de Recherches sur la Cognition et l'Apprentissage (CERCA, UMR7295, CNRS and Universities of Poitiers and Tours, http://cerca.labo.univ-poitiers.fr ), which develops research on memory, language, communication and sensori-motricity, as well as on the relationship between physical exercise and cognition. These functions are studied at CeRCA with a view to their application to learning and education, taking into account both the characteristics of the individual (age, sex, cognitive abilities) and his or her environment.

Children and/or adolescents with cognitive or motor deficiencies and/or neurodevelopmental disorders and/or "dys" disorders are in a situation of educational inequality. Expected projects will explore how these individual vulnerabilities lead to different learning capacities, and/or how these deficiencies can be compensated for by adapted strategies aimed at minimizing educational inequalities. Projects may involve the development, evaluation or validation of strategies to optimize, remediate or stimulate learning, or the development of methods to complement explicit learning (such as implicit learning). The use of digital technologies is encouraged, as is any other form of intervention with proven remote transfer effects (musical activities, for example). The role of social factors (e.g., socio-economic profile of individuals, specific features of the region) as moderators of deficits or support may also be considered. Target areas include reading, writing, numbering and arithmetic, as well as attention and memory skills, motor skills and the development of socio-cognitive competencies.

If he/she joins the LEAD, the CPJ holder could teach the fundamental courses in cognitive and developmental psychology in L1, L2 and L3, and the course in "Adolescent development and disorders" in L3. He/she could also teach in the two Master programs attached to LEAD, in the "Language and music", "Regulation of attention and memory", "Learning mechanisms: resource skills at all ages?", "Memory and cognition", "Learning, memory, language in children and their disorders", "Executive functions and dysfunctions in children", and "Models of cognitive development" courses."
If she/he joins the CERCA, the CPJ holder will teach in the Psychology Department of the University of Poitiers, in the fundamental cognitive psychology courses of the Bachelor's program, as well as in the Master's program, notably in the "Development, learning and associated disorders", "Learning and emotion" and "Neuropsychological management of children" courses of the "Neuropsychology of children and adults: language, cognition and learning" program. Interventions in the "Inclusion and Participation - Disability, Difficulties, Dependency" Master's course could also be envisaged.

The CNRS is developing a strong policy in favor of open science. Open science consists of making research results "as accessible as possible and closed as necessary". As such, the CNRS aims to make 100% of the texts of publications resulting from the work of its laboratories accessible , in particular through deposit in HAL. The data produced must also be made available and reusable, except for specific restrictions. In addition, the guiding principles of individual evaluation have been revised in accordance with the DORA declaration, to be more qualitative and to take into account all facets of the researcher's profession.

The dissemination of the results will be done through world-class scientific productions: publications, patents, software... In addition, the results will be communicated to various targets such as scientific communities, media, decision makers, general public, schools, etc., with an adapted calendar. Specific tools may be developed such as websites, newsletters, meetings, international symposia, summer schools and conferences.

The relationship between science and society is now recognized as a full dimension of scientific activity. The project will develop this dimension in synergy with all the partners. The resulting research work will contribute to informing public decision-making. Participatory science initiatives may be initiated with actors from the project's socio-economic and cultural eco-system.
