The Faculty of Built Environment (BEN) at Tampere University is looking for a university instructor to join the School of Architecture. BEN conducts high-quality scientific and applied research in the fields of architecture and civil engineering and provides higher education based on this research. We are now seeking a university instructor in urban planning. 

Job description 

The university instructor will teach and develop courses in urban planning in collaboration with his or her colleagues at the University. The successful candidate will also be expected to engage in collaborative educational and research activities involving not only staff at the School of Architecture but also other fields of study at Tampere Universities. The position is teaching-oriented. The university instructor will perform broad-ranging teaching tasks both at the BSc and MSc levels, develop courses and prepare teaching materials. Urban planning is one of the specialisations available to students working towards a master’s degree in architecture. The university instructor will also undertake research, but the extent of these research activities will depend on the successful candidate’s professional interests and the range of projects underway at the School of Architecture. 

Requirements 

The successful candidate will be expected to hold a master’s degree in architecture, landscape architecture or some other applicable field. We are looking for candidates with strong collaboration and interpersonal skills. We are especially interested in candidates who have completed courses in university pedagogy, have prior teaching experience and a track record of teaching, and have experience of working and conducting research in the field of urban planning. A doctoral degree, or an interest in and commitment to pursuing further education, would be considered an advantage.  We will expect the successful candidate to complete pedagogical courses intended for university teachers after joining the University unless he or she has already completed equivalent courses. 

A good level of English is required. Proficiency in the Finnish language will be an advantage. 

We offer 

The anticipated start date for this permanent, full-time position is 1 January 2022 or as mutually agreed. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees. 

Salaries at Tampere University are based on the Finnish University Salary System for teaching and research staff. The preliminary job demands level for a university instructor is 5. In addition, employees receive performance-based pay.
