Offer Description
LUT University’s Laboratory of Electricity Markets and Power Systems offers several junior researcher (doctoral student) positions starting in autumn 2024. The work will involve research in the areas of energy forecasting, distributed energy storage systems, and electric transportation system integration. The laboratory is part of the Department of Electrical Engineering at LUT University’s School of Energy Systems in Lappeenranta, Finland.
What we are looking for
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering, physics, or a closely related field
- Research background and experience relevant to one or more of the following subject areas:
- Good programming skills (e.g., GAMS, Julia, Python, and Matlab): particularly, experience in AI, machine learning, deep learning, and optimisation techniques in power and energy system studies
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary research team, conduct independent research, present research regularly at international conferences and workshops, and publish papers in leading academic journals in the research field
- High written and spoken proficiency in English
- Ability to support the preparation of funding applications
Employment relationship and pay
The employment contract can be concluded only if the candidate obtains the right to pursue doctoral studies at LUT University. The employment starts with a one-year term including a six-month trial period and can be extended by three years provided that the studies have progressed satisfactorily.
The salary is based on the current collective agreement for Finnish universities. The typical gross starting salary for a junior researcher is approximately 32 500 euros a year.
