Offer Description

The Department of Chemistry , in the Faculty of Mathematics and Science is currently seeking to recruit a Doctoral Researcher in Physical Chemistry starting on May 1st, 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter for a maximum of four years.

The doctoral researcher will work in the group of Professor Karoliina Honkala at the Department of Chemistry. In the EU funded project, "Membrane-assisted Ethylene Synthesis over Nanostructured Tandem Catalysts", the focus is on the hydrogenation of carbon dioxide into olefins using nanostructured tandem catalysts. The task includes examining the reaction mechanism and catalyst structures through density functional theory calculations. These calculations support the work of experimental research groups participating in the project, aiming to rationalize and enhance the development of catalysts.

Previous experience in computational chemistry, computational heterogeneous catalysis, or density functional theory calculations is particularly relevant. Prerequisites for the positions include thorough working methods, team player attitude, and the ability to work with good levels of independence. The new group members are expected to actively participate in group meetings and undergraduate / graduate students’ supervision. Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken, are required.
