The Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) is an international research unit focusing
on human genomics and personalised medicine at the Helsinki Institute of Life Science (HiLIFE) of the University of Helsinki - a leading Nordic university with a strong commitment to life science research. As part of Academic Medical Center Helsinki in Meilahti campus FIMM collaborates locally with the Faculty of Medicine, Helsinki University Hospital and National Institute for Health and Welfare. FIMM is currently seeking for a Data Manager to join the Data Science and Genetic Epidemiology Lab
FIMM is the leading genetics and precision medicine research unit in Finland. We are managing petabytes of human genetics and health data, and these datasets will likely increase tenfold in the forthcoming years. We are collaborating daily with top researchers and research institutes in the world and international healthcare companies to improve health and well-being on a global scale. FIMM is seeking a data manager to have a key role in one of the largest registry-based projects in Finland.
The Data Science and Genetic Epidemiology Lab (https://www.dsgelab.org/ ) lead by Dr. Andrea Ganna is interested in the development or application of methods to early identify common preventable diseases. In our group, we integrate electronic health records, image data and genetic information from large biobank-based studies (e.g. https://www.finngen.fi/en ). Our team includes experts in machine learning, human genetics and epidemiology. Our team, together with the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, is leading the FinRegistry research project (http://www.finregistry.fi/ ). This project leverages 16+ nationwide health and socio-demographic registries on more than 7.5 million individuals with the aim to explore individual risk trajectories and to develop statistical and machine learning models to predict disease occurrences.
Qualification and requirements:
The Data Science and Genetic Epidemiology Lab is looking for a data manager that will help to manage and organize FinRegistry data and be an integrative part of the team.
Tasks include handling data permissions, organizing data dictionaries and documentation and working directly with the data by performing quality control procedures. The candidate will work closely with other members of the Dsge Lab and will have the opportunity to learn and be involved in research projects using the FinRegistry data.
The candidate should be detail-oriented and have strong organizational skills. The candidate should have at least 3 years of experience in working with large datasets, better if health-related, and some programming skills. Having worked with national health registers or electronic health records and good knowledge of programming languages such as R and python are considered a plus.
Contract & salary:
The job is for a fixed term of an initial 2 years with a possibility to extend it for three years. A trial period of 6 months will be applied. The starting salary will be ca. 3,500 – 3,800 euros/month, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience and including a salary component based on personal performance. Standard Finnish pension benefits and occupational health care are provided for University employees.
