Offer Description

A postdoctoral researcher (career stage R2) will be recruited to one of the following areas: maritime economics, maritime transport and maritime logistics.

The postdoctoral researcher will work as part of Maritime Transport research group in Estonian Maritime Academy consisting of 10 research researchers of various levels. The aim of the group is study 1) how tightening environmental regulations influence shipping companies, ports and maritime markets and 2) the functioning and competitiveness of shipping companies, ports and the maritime sector.

Postdoctoral researcher will:

  • Carry out research and studies related to the project in question together with Ph.D -students.
  • Have overall responsibility of the externally funded project, including budget and deliverables. This work is done together with the research groups’ project assistant.
  • Take part in development of the research group’s work.
  • Teach (approximately 6-12 ECTS per year).

Responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to:

  • Contribute to building a network of academic, industrial, and governmental partners in Estonia, Baltic region, EU and beyond.
  • Conduct research in the field on maritime transport.
  • Publish its research in highly visible journals and conferences with large impact.
  • Participate in supervising graduate level students.
  • Provide general and specialist support for project proposals together with the professor.

The position is at Estonian Maritime Academy in Tallinn University of Technology. Expected starting date of the contract is no later than September 2024. The position is fix-term for up to 3 years, but it might be extended afterwards.

The successful candidate shall have:

  • PhD degree in one of the fields of: maritime, economics, logistics, shipping, ICT, environmental studies, mathematics or similar.
  • Knowledge and interest about maritime and port sector development.
  • Excellent level of spoken and written English;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, curiosity, and creativity, also, willingness to learn and work as part of an international team.
  • A track record of documented interdisciplinary collaboration (e.g. projects or joint publications across disciplines).
