Reports to: Assistant Director, Career Advising and Scholarship Engagement

Purpose: In coordination with the assistant director, Career Advising and Scholarship Engagement program, the job holder will be responsible to implement a comprehensive career advising program to support students and alumni throughout their career planning and job search processes. He/she will also provide career services to undergraduate students, graduate students and alumni.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual career advising to undergraduate and graduate students, and alumni to help them in clarifying their career interests and to support their short and long-term career planning process, through scheduled appointments, and walk-in hours
  • Guide students in researching majors and relevant careers; exploring interests, values, and skills; and identifying academic/career options
  • Educate students on means of researching corporate and industry Information; developing networking leads; exploring the job market trends; and following professional conduct throughout the job search process
  • Design and conduct career development workshops tailored for undergraduate/graduate students and alumni and analyze students' feedback and follow up on their recommendations
  • Administer and interpret self-assessment instruments, and advise students/alumni on how to utilize the outcomes in career decision-making
  • Conduct individual resume critique and mock interview sessions to students and alumni
  • Review, critique, and activate resumes and cover letters on CareerWeb
  • Plan and organize an annual Graduate Study Fair with participation from international universities, institutes and organizations offering graduate study opportunities/scholarships
  • Conduct Career Center orientation sessions among students to encourage early career planning
  • Work closely with the supervisor to tailor and implement career programs targeting undergraduate students' career planning and job search needs
  • Plan and implement career programs to address the needs of graduate students in collaboration with the graduate student office/association
  • Solicit and send tailored digital content and LinkedIn learning pathways to students
  • Collaborate with international universities to conduct on-campus graduate study information sessions
  • Update graduate study and scholarship pages on website
  • Edit, update and send out the weekly bulletin Career Connections sent to undergraduates
  • Edit and contribute in writing career-related news/articles to be included onto the Career Center website and in office publications as needed
  • Recruit, train, and supervise a pool of selected students, peer career advisors, on annual basis to provide resume critiques, interviewing tips and general career resources library orientations to peer students
  • Collaborate with the different academic departments to develop and deliver career modules
  • Analyze and report on career advising and counseling activities annually and bi-annually
  • Report on career advising areas of strengths and weaknesses that need to be addressed and present recommendations for improvement and enhancement
  • Identify potential eligible students for the Scholarship Engagement Program and provide them with the required guidance and coaching throughout their junior and senior years to meet eligibility criteria
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the relevant scholarships’ criteria, promote scholarships on campus, and facilitate the application and selection process of The American University in Cairo (AUC) students
  • Collaborate with faculty/administrators to identify and develop potential student scholars
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned

Requirements:

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in psychology
  • Master's degree in counseling or education is highly recommended

Experience:

  • Minimum 7 – 10 years’ experience in the area of career counseling, human resources, career education or teaching/ training. Experience could be reduced if the candidate is a master's degree holder
  • Familiarity with self-assessment tools
  • Familiarity with the American system of education
  • Knowledge of career development theories, approaches to career advising, and strategies to make sound, well-informed career choices
  • Familiarity with job market trends and current employment practices
  • Experience in computer data management and data analysis an asset

  • Effective English written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, training and supervisory skills
  • Ability to counsel and teach a diverse student body and alumni
  • Team-oriented work style and good analytical skill
  • Experience in managing deadlines in a fast-paced work environment
  • Fluency in spoken Arabic is preferred
  • Working knowledge of Macintosh operations: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Avid Internet user
