We are looking for a student/part-time assistant who will help us evolve our Universal Design methods, DesignLab facility in DTU Skylab and support our involvement of end-users in workshops as part of the programme “Technology Leaving no one Behind” – a flagship initiative anchored at DTU Skylab to foster inclusive innovation, entrepreneurship, and education.
Primary areas of responsibility
- Method development: As a team member, you will build and grow your skills as a Junior Design Consultant by being part of our team to design, test and improve tools to work with universal design and inclusion in engineering education, with diverse end-users and workshops with externals. The work will link to being part of the design of physical tools, like our Ability Prompt Cards, but also be heavily involved in the content creation and updates for www.universaldesignguide.com together with the team, including leading the contact and collaboration with our external web development agency. You will also take part in recording and producing tutorials and lectures for the website, which has been given global attention by UX superstars and reaches designers in 114 countries.
- DesignLab development: DesignLab is the newest facility in Skylab, where we offer students and faculty the opportunity to work with inclusion and design utilizing the latest technologies. This, among others, includes eye and motion tracking for quantifiable user-data and a VR-Lab, where user-testing can be conducted in virtual space. You will take an active part in driving the further development of DesignLab, keeping up with the latest trends and making sure that DesignLab is on the forefront of what a Design facility offers. Here you will work closely with our research colleagues, DTU educators and technology team at DTU Skylab to develop the lab, assist in its use and be part of promoting the use of it to students, faculty, and start-ups.
- End-user involvement: Involving end-users is a key part of Universal Design and is something we often do in our course and workshop collaborations. In this role you will assist the Innovation Consultant in the requirement and involvement of end-users, ensuring the right users are onboarded, and that they have a great experience partaking in the workshops. This is not only limited to outreach, but also creating ways to interact with us through the universaldesignguide.com website and developing DesingLab into an even better place for hosting co-creation workshops.
As a person, you are proactive, inventive, and accustomed to having different tasks on your plate at the same time and ready to solve tasks ad hoc. You must be a good finisher with attention to detail and organization. You are welcoming and are always at eye level with people around you.
Our expectations of you
- Preferably at 2nd or 3rd year of bachelor with interest to join our team more than a single semester
- With good communication skills in both written and spoken English. Experience with general communication and graphic design (InDesign, Illustrator) is preferred.
- With interest in sustainability, innovation, entrepreneurship. If you have experience of working with Universal Design or inclusive technologies even better, but not a requirement.
- With interest in engaging in the student and start-up community at DTU and good at maintaining the overview when it is hectic.
- Preferably with some prior workshop experience and use of general design methods.
- That is ambitious and quality-conscious, and takes pride in delivering high-quality results

Salary and appointment terms
If you have yet to obtain a bachelor’s degree, you will be titled as ‘Student Assistant’, and your appointment will be based according to the multi-union collective agreement for the Organization of Public Employees – Denmark (State) (OAO-S) and the trade union agreement for clerical staff etc. (HK/State). If you hold a bachelor’s degree your title will be ‘Part-time Assistant’ and your appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).
Expected starting date is 1 August 2024. Working hours are on average 12 hours per week and can be organized flexibly in relation to holidays, exams, etc. Starting date is as soon as possible (or according to mutual agreement). The employment runs as long as you are an active student.
You will be employed at DTU Skylab, and the workplace is DTU Lyngby Campus, Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark.
You will be part of a dedicated ‘Technology Leaving No One Behind’ team of 7 with a senior team leader, an innovation consultant, 2 fellow student assistants at DTU Skylab, a PhD student and an Associate Professor at DTU Entrepreneurship.
However, the employment may also offer the opportunity to take on tasks connected to other projects and activities at DTU Skylab.
