Staff Scientist in Microbial Genome Engineering - DTU Biosustain

Job Description

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Staff Scientist in DNA Foundry to work on collaborative strain development projects. The successful candidate will play an important role in engineering microbial strains using high-throughput automated/semi-automated workflows. The part of the role also involves supporting flow cytometry and FACS facility maintenance. 

The job
Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Execute strain development projects in biofoundry using automation instruments e.g., different liquid handlers and colony picker.
  • Ideation and implementation of synthetic biology and genome editing tools for platform strains e.g., E. coli, Pseudomonas, S. cerevisiae
  • uild out DNA Foundry capabilities in strain development pipelines using latest technologies 
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop platform strains 
  • Train and guide users in sample preparation, design, data analysis of flow cytometry and FACS protocols
  • Analyse, report data and effectively communicate any foreseen delays or process deviations
  • Evolve and improve processes in response to requirements and new technologies

Our expectations of you

  • PhD or equivalent in molecular biology, synthetic biology, metabolic engineering or related
  • Proven track record of working on metabolic engineering or strain development projects involving microbial genome engineering
  • Expertise in a wide range of techniques such as CRISPR based genome editing, homologous recombination, DNA assembly methods, selection/counter-selection methods and promoter or expression elements
  • Experience in flow cytometry and FACS methods 
  • Experience in using automation instruments for strain engineering projects is advantageous
  • Experience in using LIMS systems such as Benchling and software tools for data analysis is advantageous
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet changing project and research needs

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
