The Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences, Aarhus University, invites highly qualified applicants for a Senior Adviser position in relation to animal production and its impact on climate and environment from 1 September 2024.
The position
We seek a candidate who has a strong background in animal science, preferably with focus on animal nutrition in one or more farm animal species. The candidate will be part of the research unit Ruminant Nutrition in the department.
An important task will be to provide science-based public sector consultancy and to play a leading role in the department’s consultancy activities towards the Food & Agriculture, Climate, and Environmental Ministries regarding animal nutrition and the impact of animal production on climate and environment.
The candidate will also lead research projects within animal production and the impact of animal production on climate and environment. This will mainly be related to ruminant production and for example strategies to reduce methane emission and improve N-efficiency.
The senior advisor is expected to participate in knowledge transfer to the animal industry and to society, to lead and participate in research projects, to apply for external funding and to contribute to teaching at BSc, MSc, and PhD levels.
The candidate
- The candidate preferably holds a PhD in animal science, biology, veterinary science etc. and has a strong background within animal science and animal production in a Danish/Northern European setting.
- A traditional background in academia is not a prerequisite, but experience from participating in research and development projects is expected. Besides the scientific qualifications, experience in public sector consultancy and in interactions with the agricultural industry and other stakeholders is desirable.
- Insight into the effects of technologies to decrease climate and environmental impact of animal production is needed for consultancy of the ministries involved.
- The candidate should be acquainted with the Danish agricultural sector and the interdisciplinary principles of sustainability in animal production.
- A non-Scandinavian speaking candidate is expected to learn Danish within a short period of time.

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Formalities and salary range
Technical Sciences refers to the
Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
