Research Process Scientist in Nano-Fabrication – DTU Physics
Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark
Job Description

We are looking for a skilled and highly motivated Process Scientist in Nanofabrication and Characterization. The successful candidate will work on developing nanomechanical and nanophotonic devices with state-of-the-art properties and quality in support of ongoing and future research activities carried out within the Quantum Physics and Information Technology section and the National Center of Excellence for Macroscopic Quantum States (bigQ).
The QPIT (Quantum Physics and Information Technology) section leads cutting-edge research in continuous variable quantum optics, quantum opto-mechanics, and diamond-based quantum sensing. As a member of the group, you will join a vibrant international team of researchers. Our informal work environment encourages knowledge-sharing, interaction, and collaboration across teams. Additionally, you will have access to on-site state-of-the-art experimental and cleanroom facilities.
The job
As the Research Process Scientist, you will work on the design, the process development, the fabrication and characterization of various structures and devices in close collaboration with our PhD students, Postdocs, and researchers, aiming at delivery of operational structures of the highest quality. Moreover, you have a proven track record in nanofabrication and developing processes for novel high-quality nano- and micro structured devices of silicon, silica, silicon nitride and diamond.
Our expectations of you
We expect the successful candidate to have:

  • a doctoral degree (PhD) within optics/photonics, physics or engineering, or a similar degree with an equivalent academic level,
  • extensive experience with various different lithography, etching and deposition techniques, in particular ICP-RIE, PECVD, LPCVD and sputtering,
  • experience with electron-beam lithography using standard and non-standard samples sizes,
  • experience with characterization of micro- and nano-structures, including optical microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy, and
  • ability to keep and maintain an ordered and safe work environment.

The candidate should be fluent in English – written and spoken. Experience with processing of diamond material and/or experience with developing state-of-the-art mechanical oscillators is an advantage.
What we offer in return
We offer an interesting and challenging job in an international atmosphere with the focus on research, teaching, innovation, and scientific advice for the benefit of the surrounding community. We place emphasis on a high level of professionalism among our staff, making skills in development an integral part of our organization. We offer a great flexibility in the position. In the area of technical and natural sciences, DTU is one of the leading research and educational institutions in Europe.
Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
The position is permanent and full time. Expected start date is 1 August 2024 (or according to mutual agreement).
