Due to an expanding project portfolio the Climate Change and Sustainable Development (CCSD) Research Group, Department of Management Engineering invites applications for a position as Research Assistant with strong analytical skills, e.g., to support our ongoing work on improving the integration of economic approaches with detailed physical (climate and impacts modelling) and statistical assessments within a systemic framework.

CCSD is a multidisciplinary research team conducting both basic and applied research, comprised by economists, geographers, engineers, and natural/environmental/climate scientists. CCSD conducts basic and applied research within economics, engineering, geography and climate science, focusing on climate change and sustainable energy in the context of sustainable development – including urban development.

Responsibilities and tasks
The successful candidate will complement our research team and support ongoing CCSD activities within a range of national, Nordic and EU projects. Depending on his/her specific qualifications duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Climate change vulnerability and adaptation analyses e.g. in relation to the urban environment
  • Collecting and analysing indicators
  • Climate change impact assessments (related to high impact events like floods)
  • Processing of geo-referenced information and spatial data analysis
  • Engaging stakeholders from the private and public sectors

Additional responsibilities include administrative tasks such as organising meetings and conferences, project progress reporting, writing funding applications, etc.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a master’s degree in geography, engineering, environmental science or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree in engineering.

Prior experience within the abovementioned research areas is an advantage but not a prerequisite. The successful candidate is expected to have skills and interests within several of the following areas:

  • An general interest in climate change research and multidisciplinary studies
  • Experience with quantitative research methods
  • Experience with one or more advanced analysis tools such as Matlab, R, Python, QGIS/ArcGIS, etc.
  • Experience in/knowledge of methods related to impact studies, such as flood modelling
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary and international environment
  • Since a number of our projects include Danish and Nordic stakeholders, proficiency in Danish (or Swedish, Norwegian) language may be an advantage

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

The place of work will be the Systems Analysis Division, DTU Management Engineering, Produktionstorvet, Building 426, 2800 Kgs. Lyngby. The initial period of employment is 1 year, starting as soon as possible.
