Job Description

The Proteomics Core Facility at the Department of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (DTU Proteomics Core) has an opening for a position as operational manager. The position will be available from April 2024 or as soon as possible.

The DTU Proteomics Core is a very well-equipped academic proteomics core facility and supports academic and industrial scientists both at DTU and beyond by providing a wide range of proteomics services using various platforms for protein and peptide separation, state-of-the-art mass spectrometers for LC-MS analysis and specialized bioinformatics tools for data analysis. The facility provides service and engages in collaborations within advanced labeled and label-free quantitative proteomics, targeted proteomics and Data-Independent Acquisition workflows. We have a long-standing record and focus on high-sensitivity analysis of very limited sample amounts, all the way down to single cells.

The DTU Proteomics Core is located at the DTU Lyngby campus in a recently constructed building housing ultra-modern, purpose-built laboratories for protein research. Currently, the facility hosts five ThermoFisher Orbitrap mass-spectrometers (two Eclipse Tribrids, one Exploris480 and two Q Exactive Classics), with FAIMSPro capability on the latest-generation instruments. For advanced chromatography methods, we have a U-3000 offline high pH fractionation system, and utilize online U-3000, Easy nLC1200 and EvoSep One platforms to support all modern proteomics approaches.

Responsibilities and tasks
The position implies daily supervision of all aspects of the core facility in close collaboration with the lab manager. The core manager is responsible for managing staff, maintaining equipment, developing and following standard operating procedures, developing and maintaining customer connections and running the projects. Budgeting and invoicing will be conducted together with the lab manager.

The future of the DTU Proteomics Core will be significantly influenced by the professional contribution of the applicant. You will be involved in important biotechnological, biomedical and chemical related projects. This includes high-profile collaborations with leading manufacturers in mass spectrometry instrument technology, chromatography and sample preparation. You will also contribute to training activities, including introductions of technical relevant information to the customers, as well as supervision of visiting students and postdocs. Own research in technological developments in proteomics will be strongly encouraged. Applying for own research grants is not obligatory but highly recommended.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD or equivalent, with documented experience in day-to-day handling of modern mass spectrometry instrumentation of at least 5-6 years.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in mass spectrometry and proteomics, as well as excellent understanding of the technology involved, including liquid chromatography, high-resolution mass spectrometry, bioinformatics and related software. A strong grasp on approaches such as DDA, DIA, and PRM is essential, including downstream analysis using e.g. Proteome Discoverer, Spectronaut, Spectromine, MaxQuant or Skyline.

The applicant should possess a core understanding of biochemistry, molecular biology, and biotechnology and be familiar with typical proteomics tasks.

Organizational, managerial, leadership and interpersonal skills are of particular importance. The candidate should preferably have experience with managing a MS facility and have knowledge of the practical, legal and financial aspects. The ideal applicant must have strong motivation and excellent work ethics. The ability to effectively interact with the research and technical staff within the group as well as external researchers in a team-oriented manner is a must.

Proficiency in English is essential, as this is the working language.

We offer
