AAU Energy is a rapidly growing and vibrant engineering research department with a strong international presence, specializing in all aspects of clean and sustainable energy systems, including electrical, thermal, and mechatronic energy technologies. With campuses in Aalborg and Esbjerg, this position will be located at Aalborg campus.

The mission is to be world leading in both research and research-based education of the energy engineers of the future. AAU Energy has approx. 300 employees of many nationalities. In addition, AAU Energy constantly has approx. 50-70 guest researchers from around the world.

Research and teaching are in the absolute world elite in the field of energy, and we have extensive and leading workshop and laboratory facilities, where research and innovation are carried out in direct collaboration with industry to a great extent.

The position requires research qualifications at doctor level within optimal management, operation and control of renewable/hybrid power systems and integrated energy systems with appropriate market mechanisms. The candidate is expected to carry out groundbreaking research in the development of advanced optimization models and cognitive methods for operation management and control of power and energy systems, and to lead activities in the areas of energy systems integration(such as power, heat and hydrogen grids), multi-carrier energy hubs, as well as market studies(such as bidding strategies and clearing mechanisms) for such systems.

The candidate must demonstrate significant experience in conducting and managing research projects at the national and international levels in the field of advanced operational planning for power and energy systems. It is expected that the candidate takes a leading role in generating new interdisciplinary research projects that advance the state-of-the-art and contribute to the creation of new research directions within market-based energy system operation and dispatching. This includes fostering collaboration, attracting competitive funding for excellent frontier research, and engaging with relevant technical working groups globally.

As Aalborg University is a mission-oriented university, it also involves engagement with societal stakeholders at regional, national and international levels.

The professor is expected to contribute to the department’s development of research-based teaching in all levels of the BSc, MSc setting up project proposals and supervise groups as well as teaching courses and doing teaching at PhD programs offered by AAU Energy and related study areas.

Qualification requirements:
The suitable applicant can demonstrate a documented high level of original scientific production at an international level, including proven further development of the research area in question. An assessment of the candidate’s undertaking of research management and/or other possible management functions will also be taken into account. In addition the applicant is expected to have the qualifications required for undertaking teaching responsibilities. Special contributions to and development of educational and teaching related areas will be considered in the overall assessment.

Wages and employment

Appointment and salary acc. to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of professional Associations(AC) on Academics in the State. Employment as Professor is in accordance with a classified position on scale 37. In addition, a pensionable increment will be given.
