Job Description

Your overall focus will be to develop and validate  computational models of degradation of wind turbine blades, microplastic formation and evolution during the service time and maintenance of wind turbine blades.  You will work with nearby colleagues, and with both academic and industrial partners in Denmark as well as abroad. Your primary tasks will be to:

  • development of computational models of microplastic formation and detachment due to surface erosion and during repair of wind turbine blades, 
  • evaluation of volume and distribution of microplastics and its distribution over time,
  • analysis of the effect of coatings properties, service conditions and maintenance technologies on the microplastics volume and distribution,
  • validation of the results using experimental and industrial data. 

Qualifications
You are expected to have a PhD degree in materials science, applied mechanics, mechanics, mechanical engineering or related disciplines, and have an experience or good knowledge of mechanics of materials, computational micromechanics, finite element simulations (ABAQUS) as well as programming in a higher-level language (Python, including Numpy package).  Demonstrated experience in preparing scientific publications in high level international journals is expected. 

Knowledge and experience in the modelling of structural evolution of materials will be advantageous.

Salary and terms of employment 
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The period of employment is 1 year. Starting date is May 1, 2024 (or according to mutual agreement). The position is a full-time position.
