Postdoc in Thermodynamic Modelling of Green Fuel Production

Updated: 13 days ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 14 Apr 2024

Do you want to contribute to the green transition? Are you interested in how we should produce green fuels for the transportation sector? If yes, then this this postdoc may be right for you.

The section of Thermal Energy at DTU Construct is looking for a post doc to work on two research projects related to green fuel production from biomass and electricity. The two research projects deal with biomass pyrolysis and gasification and your job is to analyze the feasibility of using the gas created by these processes to produce green fuels such as methanol, bio-oil and methane. The integration of water electrolysis to enable the use of green electricity and to increase carbon efficiency is of particular interest.

In the section we all have a basis in thermodynamics and apply this to all kinds of energy converting systems using both experimental methods and modelling.

Responsibilities

Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Do thermodynamic modelling using the software Aspen Plus
  • Analyze the modelling results by mainly considering energy efficiency, carbon efficiency and techno-economics.
  • Propose new system designs for systems converting biomass and electricity to fuel.
  • Participate in scientific conferences and publish results in scientific journals.

Qualifications

We expect that you have:

  • Extensive experience with thermodynamic modelling. Perhaps you have used it in your PhD study
  • A solid understanding of thermodynamics including energy conversion
  • Clear and concise communication skills in English

We also expect that you take responsibility for own research goals.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 20 months. It is a full-time position.
