Job Description

If you aim at scientific excellence and want to establish a career as a scientist within fiber lasers and supercontinum sources and their high-level applications within imaging and spectroscopy, then we have the ideal opportunity for you. Come and be a part of the “Table-Top Synchrotron” project and one of the world’s strongest groups in this field in our quest to develop supercontinuum sources that outcompete synchrotrons from the deep ultraviolet (deep-UV) down to 33 nm to the mid-infrared (mid-IR) up to 15 µm.
To cover this enormous bandwidth we are developing 4 new all-fiber supercontinuum sources, or beamlines. The UV beamline 1 is based on gas-filled hollow-core silica fibers and meta-surfaces and will cover 33-1100 nm, extending the record 113 nm UV edge to 33 nm. The near-IR beamline 2 is based on solid-core silica photonic crystal fibers covering 400-2400 nm and will use so-called all-normal dispersion (ANDi) fibers pumped with femtosecond lasers to achieve record low noise for spectroscopy and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) imaging applications. The same technology will be used for the low-noise beamline 3 covering 1-5 µm using commercial fluoride fiber. Beamline 4 will push the record IR edge in all-fiber mid-IR supercontinuum sources to 15 µm by using chalcogenide soft-glass fibers, in particular in-house fabricated sulfide, selenide, and telluride fibers.
Responsibilities and qualifications
Your primary responsibility will be the applications of beamlines 3-4 in mid-infrared (MIR) spectral-domain OCT. You will use our in-house developed MIR supercontinuum lasers and advanced upconversion detectors covering 6-8 µm to develop the world first ultra-fast high-resolution 7 µm MIR OCT system. You will also operate/upgrade our existing 4 µm and 1300 nm OCT systems and compare the performance of the 3 systems for sub-surface non-destructive testing (NDT) of a wide range of samples, including wind-turbine blades and additive manufactured ceramics.
We therefore require you to have good qualifications within experimental development of OCT and within OCT signal processing, and to document a drive to build things yourself and finish projects with high-profile publications.
As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
