We offer a postdoc position for a candidate to join the Digital Building Technology section to conduct pioneering research on energy system modeling, design and management to improve energy efficiency, activate energy demand flexibility, and enhance energy resilience of buildings and communities. We have access to extensive energy data sets to develop digital twin models of districts based on historical data. You will optimize the design and operation of energy systems, considering the life cycle of buildings and energy systems to provide retrofitting solutions. You will be working in a vibrant research environment with the possibility to be involved in many research and innovation projects that can have a great societal impact. You will also be connected to many relevant research communities with experts worldwide. 

Responsibilities and qualifications

Your focus will be on strengthening the department’s competencies in modeling community energy systems. You will work with PhD students, another Postdoc, and academic and industrial partners in Denmark and abroad. 

Your primary tasks will be: 

  • Modeling energy systems and buildings for building clusters and communities
  • Data analysis and development of data-driven models
  • Designing and optimizing retrofitting solutions considering future climate and environmental impact
  • Publishing research results in reputable journals and conferences
  • Teaching MSc courses
  • Supervising MSc student projects and be co-supervisor for PhD students
  • Participating in new project applications 

The ideal candidate should have experience with: 

  • Modelica modeling tools, e.g., Dymola
  • Handling large data sets using AI techniques
  • Professional programming skills in Python, R, or MATLAB
  • LCA for buildings 

Besides, qualified applicants must have: 

  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic about the research topics 
  • Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken
  • Ability to work independently, to plan and carry out challenging tasks 

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental engineering (or equivalent).    

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. 

The period of employment is 2 years. The starting date is 1 November 2024 (or according to mutual agreement).
