PostDoc on Multi-objective Optimisation with Digital Twins

We invite applicants for a 2.5 year PostDoc position on multi-objective optimisation in urban areas as part of an international research project at Aarhus University (CITWIN –

https://citwin.eu

). Within CITWIN, we will utilise and combine various tools and information sources from our project partners to create a digital shadow of urban environments. This digital shadow will be utilised for exploring optimal locations of transportation hubs based on various relevant objectives and providing feedback to public authorities and stakeholders in industry.

This is a 2.5–year (30 month) position from 1. May 2024 or as soon possible.


Job description

You will join the team in Aarhus, Denmark on a research project with international partners from Sweden, Belgium, and Austria.
Within this project, we will perform multi-objective optimisation as well as impact and sensitivity analysis in the spatial environment.

Specifically, we will combine various tools and data sources from our partners to create a holistic digital shadow (i.e. up-to-date model of the urban environment) and utilise multi-objective optimisation to explore where changes in the urban environment can be applied how this affects the utilised metrics. We will provide a dedicated tool to support decisions and policymakers by ranking and recommending potential adaptations and link them to anticipated benefits for the 15-minute city.



Your profile

Applicants should hold a PhD in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or similar.

Expertise on multi-objective optimisation and software engineering.

Experience with software integration and interacting with various stakeholders (project partners) is a plus.

In addition, it is an advantage if the candidate has:

  • An ability to work as part of a team, especially in the context of software engineering, geographic information systems, and transportation.
  • Ability to develop software tools and integrate various data sources and tools from our partners.
  • Experience to present research results and communicate with stakeholders within as well as outside academia.
  • Publication experience.

Electrical and computer engineering are closely related engineering disciplines that focus on the development of hardware and software for intelligent units and networks. This includes hardware at system and component levels as well as many different types of software for controlling electronic devices and networks.

The research areas within the Electrical and Computer Engineering Section at Department of Engineering support the development within this area. The outcome greatly influences our daily lives as advanced technologies are incorporated into an increasing number of products, for example in industrial processes, at hospitals and in information infrastructures.

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
