Post Doc for Healthcare Communication

The position will primarily be attached to the section Mediated Communication, which focuses on: 

  • communication practices and media usage with a specific interest for the intersections between aesthetics, politics, and everyday life. 

The project focuses on development of new counseling practices in community pharmacy for patients suffering from anxiety or depression by addressing current needs of patients and pharmacy staff in dealing with medicines. The project is sponsored by Velux, and collaboration partners are Pharmakon, Psykiatrifonden, Bedre Psykiatri– landsforeningen for pårørerende, The Danish Committee for Health Education, the Department of Social Pharmacy at the University of Copenhagen and the Department of Communication and Psychology at the University of Aalborg.

Based on humanistic approaches the Post doc is expected to conduct cutting edge research, which enables the development of new relevant counseling practices in the project. Methods involved in the project are video ethnography, conversation analysis, video-stimulated interviews, and theory development. The Post Doc candidate should have previous experience in at least three of these. As the project is a close collaboration with researchers from the University of Copenhagen, the Post Doc will be expected to spend some time in Copenhagen as well.

This means contributing with the other researchers to the following specific tasks:

  • Development of data collection tools
  • Carrying out data collection
  • Analysis and theory development
  • Writing up scientific publications.

In terms of research
The position includes research and applicants are expected to have research experience in one or more of the above-mentioned areas, i.e., communication, culture, psychology of language or psychology. 

In relation to research, applicants should document: 

  • Experience, skills, and achievements that demonstrate the ability or potential to produce high quality research outputs and publish in journals.
  • A personal research plan which is consistent with the Department of Communication and Psychology research strategy and demonstrates the potential to develop new research projects.
  • Experience, skills, and achievements that demonstrate the ability or potential to develop external and/or international networks and collaborations.
  • Experience, skills, and achievements that demonstrate the ability or potential to engage in activities with actors outside academia to enhance the impact of research.
  • Ability to use the Danish language to be able to carry out participatory data collection and analysis. 

Other expectations

  • Document experience, achievements and skills showing the ability or potential to work collaboratively with colleagues within the department and designated section as well as with colleagues at other departments.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Participate fully in the day-to-day activities of the department and the section and encourage and foster a positive and collegial working environment.

POST DOCTORAL POSITION
The position will be heavily weighted in favour of research. In addition, there will be a certain amount of teaching activities. The performance of other duties may be required to a limited extent. The university determines the exact weighting of the various responsibilities. The weighting of the various responsibilities may vary over time.

Appointment as a postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University. Appointment at postdoc level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark, however max. six years at Assistant Professor level- which includes Postdoc- at the same institution.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications.

ASSESSMENT
Applicants will be assessed by an assessment committee.

Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select applicants for assessment. Before the shortlisting takes place, all applicants will get the opportunity to comment on the composition of the assessment committee. All applicants will be informed whether they are selected for assessment or not.

Wages and employment

Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
