Aarhus BSS Graduate School, Aarhus University invites applicants for a PhD Scholarship in connection with Energy/Climate/Environmental Economics at the PhD Programme in Economics and Business Economics

The position is available from 1 September 2024. 


The research project

The research project falls within the broad field of energy, climate, and environmental economics with focus on quantitative (applied and theoretical) research. The field includes the economics of energy markets, energy market design, climate finance, the economics of green transition, climate econometrics as well as applied and theoretical econometric research relevant for the field in a broad sense.

The PhD student is funded by Center for Research in Energy: Economics and Market (CoRE) hosted by the Department of Economics and Business Economics. CoRE is funded by the energy trading company InCommodities for the period 2024-2028. The center conducts independent research in the field. CoRE is starting up in the spring 2024 and includes researchers and PhD students from all sections of the department. International researchers will be affiliated with the center as well, and the center will
organize several research-related activities


Job description

The PhD student will be connected with the relevant section of the department dependent upon the precise research project of the candidate and the supervisor. The PhD student will be closely affiliated with CoRE. You will work independently as well as with other researchers writing research papers, analyzing data and research questions relevant for the PhD project, presenting research results etc. Coursework and teaching are also part of the PhD position.


Your qualifications

We expect you to have a strong quantitative background in economics and econometrics as well as excellent analytical skills. We also expect you to have a sincere interest in the field of energy, climate and environmental economics and econometrics and will find it challenging to work with research questions relevant for the field of energy and the green transition in a broad sense.

  • the applicant’s academic qualifications (assessed on the basis of the qualifying degree)
  • the quality and relevance of the project proposal
  • the applicant’s level of academic aptitude and assessed ability to complete the project within the framework of the PhD programme

Applicants are very much encouraged to supply documentation as to how they rank compared to their class (both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees). This may for example be in the form of a letter from your University stating either how you rank as an individual student compared to other students the year you graduated ("ranks as no. 6 out of 111" or "ranks as among the best 8 percent") or if that is not possible, general information from your University as to how grades were distributed in the year of your graduation, will be appreciated.
