Job Description

The Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering (DTU Construct) at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Researcher level in the “Soft Materials” field. We are seeking a highly motivated and accomplished individual with a strong background in experimental soft materials research at the crossroads of Polymer Science, Tissue Engineering, Flexible Electronic and Bioelectronics. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and collaborative research group committed to advancing knowledge in soft materials and contributing to the academic community.
We are looking for a highly motivated applicant with a broad background in Materials Science and Engineering The applicant should have demonstrated expertise in interdisciplinary fields such as regenerative medicine, polymer science, biomaterial, bioprinting, and flexible bioelectronics. 
You will be expected to be able to perform cutting-edge research in soft materials with a focus on mentioned interdisciplinary fields, publish research findings in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, supervise graduate students in research projects, form collaborative partnerships with academic sectors (internally and externally), secure funding through grant applications to support the research program.
The successful applicant will join a dynamic, encouraging, and intellectually stimulating scientific community, fostering idea exchange among colleagues. DTU provides appealing research infrastructures, including advanced microscopy facilities, high-end furnaces, mechanical testers, design and fabrication facilities, various (bio) printers, characterization equipment, synthesis equipment and materials, and access to required related laboratories. 
This full-time position is a part of DTU’s Tenure Track program with an expected start date of Summer 2024. The position is on-site at the Lyngby campus (north of Copenhagen). Responsibilities and qualifications
The key responsibilities of the Researcher are: 

  • Conducting cutting-edge research in soft materials with a focus on tissue engineering, biofabrication, flexible electronics, and bioelectronics interfacing with biological tissue.
  • Publishing research findings in top-tier peer-reviewed journals and presenting at national and international conferences.
  • Supervising graduate students in research projects, fostering the next generation of scientists and engineers.
  • Establishing collaborations internally at the department and university levels as well as externally with national/international institutions.
  • Securing external research funding through grant applications to support the research program.

You must contribute to the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.
As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

In addition, you will also be assessed in relation to:

  • Experience in chemistry, physics, materials science engineering, or a related field with a specialization in soft materials.
  • Demonstrated excellence in research, as evidenced by a strong publication record and contributions to the field.
  • Extensive experience in experimental techniques and broad knowledge in biomaterials synthesis, physical and chemical characterization of materials, biomaterial design, bioprinting, cell culture, and cell biology. 
  • The ability to secure funding for the research area of interest.
  • A great interest and enthusiasm in learning Artificial Intelligence and seeking paths through which to strengthen the investigations and findings in the field.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
