Job Description

The National Food Institute (DTU Food) at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) invites applications for a position as Tenure Track researcher in the Research Group on Nutrition, Sustainability and Health Promotion. One of the focus areas of the group is conducting The Danish National Survey of Diet and Physical Activity. The research group is interdisciplinary combining nutrition, sustainability and sociological perspectives. It has a dynamic staff with especially national but also international visibility, and many research collaborations with other universities and organisations. 

The research field concerns determinants for dietary habits, including sustainable and healthy diets as well as physical activity. The focus is on social determinants, attitudes and beliefs and research methods include both quantitative and qualitative methods.

Responsibilities and qualifications
DTU Food wants to strengthen our research within determinants for dietary habits among population segments with a particular focus on health and sustainability. You will contribute to this research by:

  • Being responsible for the design and documentation of survey questions, data processing and handling of survey data on social background, meal habits and attitudes to healthy and sustainable eating.
  • Being involved in development of new externally funded projects via engagement with industry and authorities.
  • Dissemination of results in international scientific journals and at conferences
  • Contributing to further development of the research field of the group and particularly of the social science perspectives.
  • Engage in advisory tasks for authorities and other stakeholders within the area of healthy and sustainable diets, physical activity and social determinants.
  • Contributing to teaching and supervising student projects.

Candidates must hold a PhD degree within the area of food sociology, public health or the like. Furthermore, preferred candidates have:

  • In-depth experience with design and development of population based public health surveys, preferably with regard to diet and physical activity, data processing and analyses of survey data.
  • In-depth knowledge about social science perspectives on food and eating, e.g. social inequality in healthy diets and consumer attitudes to food, nutrition, and health.
  • Knowledge within nutrition and sustainability.
  • Experience with both quantitative and qualitative research methods, preferably including mixed method research.
  • Experience in statistical analyses and in the publication of results.
  • You must be able to work interdisciplinary but also independently and be able to build up your own research area
  • You must contribute to the teaching of courses.
  • DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. 

The candidate is expected to take up the position latest 1st of October 2024.
