Applications are invited for a position as Data Analyst at DTU Aqua’s Section for Monitoring and Data.
DTU Aqua provides scientific advice to both Danish and international authorities on sustainable utilisation of living aquatic resources and the impact of human activities on the aquatic environment.
The scientific advice is founded on the Institute’s monitoring of fisheries and fish stocks, and its research into aquatic ecosystems, the dynamics of fisheries and fish stocks, fishery technology and the effects of management measures. Besides the advisory and public consultancy tasks, DTU Aqua contributes to the educational activities at DTU with courses and PhD School and contribute to innovation in sustainable exploitation and management of aquatic resources. We investigate the biology and population ecology of aquatic organisms, aquatic physics and chemical processes, ecosystem structure and dynamics, taking account of all relevant natural and anthropogenic drivers.
The position as Data Analyst is affiliated to the Data team and workplace will be at the Lyngby Campus, just north of Copenhagen.
The job
The main tasks will involve helping our dynamic Data team in practical data handling, analysis, and support of scientific work with a major focus on data quality assurance, artificial intelligence, and image recognition. We are working with large and complex datasets involving fishery and biological data to support scientific work as well as managers, both nationally and internationally. We have a focus on data management, handling and quality assurance as well as submission of data and data visualizations to end-users. We are presently in the process of including artificial intelligence and machine learning in our constantly changing and developing data environment. As our group provides data for many different end-users and projects the work can be very diverse with routine tasks as well as more project oriented work.
Our expectations of you
We are looking for a person with good analytical and data handling skills. You need to be familiar with coding in R as these are the main tools used in our present data group. Further we would like you to have practical experience with AI, machine learning and image recognition further, an understanding on fishery data will be an advantage. We would like you to have a sound understanding of databases with a good eye for detail. You need to be able to play a key role in analyzing problems and come up with creative solutions as well as developing methodologies for effective data management. Handling, analysis, modelling and visualization of data are key elements in the job and skills within this area are highly relevant.
Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
Place of employment will be at DTU Aqua, Section for Monitoring and Data, Lyngby, Denmark.
The position start date is the 1/7 2024 or according to mutual agreement.

The purpose of DTU Aqua is to provide research, advice and education at the highest international level within the sustainable exploitation of living marine and freshwater resources, the biology of aquatic organisms and the dynamics of ecosystems as well as their integration in ecosystem-based management. DTU Aqua has 280 employees, of whom a third are scientific staff. The institute is organised into eight scientific sections which carry out the research, educational and advisory activities. In addition, the institute has a number of scientific and administrative support functions, including the research vessel DANA. DTU Aqua has employees in Charlottenlund, Hirtshals, Silkeborg, Nykøbing Mors as well as on Dana.
