Bioinformatician for the Single-Cell Omics Platform (12 months maternity cover) Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
We are seeking a bioinformatician to strengthen our abilities to draw robust biological inferences from large-scale data generated in the Single-Cell Omics Platform. The role is an exciting opportunity for ambitious candidates with a bioinformatics background to work in the field of genomics services. The starting date is as soon as possible.
The successful candidate will work in the Single-Cell Omics Platform that provides the researchers at Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic metabolic Research (CBMR) with cutting-edge single-cell transcriptomics and epigenetics techniques and spatial transcriptomics, using the state-of-the-art equipment, data science and machine learning approaches.
About CBMR
Through collaborative interdisciplinary research from single-cell genomics to whole-body systems, CBMR aims to transform the basic understanding of cardiometabolic health and accelerate its translation into prevention and treatment strategies. The Center has around 260 employees, consisting of 21 research groups and 5 technology platforms.
The Center’s uniquely multi- and interdisciplinary approach combines research in genetics, physiology, and pharmacology, to better understand the complex interplay of the many factors that drive cardiometabolic disease. You can learn more in the Executive Summary of CBMR's Strategy 2024–2028.
About the Platform
The Single-Cell Omics Platform is an integral part of the Center and is embedded tightly into the Danish single-cell community. The team has a solid expertise in working with single-cell data, and currently comprises laboratory technicians, bioinformaticians, mathematicians and a platform manager.

The role
As a bioinformatician in the Single-Cell Omics Platform, you will be responsible for processing, analyzing, and interpreting both single-cell and bulk sequencing data as well as developing and implementing new analysis workflows.
Primary tasks
- To develop and maintain computational workflows to process and analyze single-cell sequencing data.
- To apply computational tools on primary sequencing data from research groups across the Center.
- To support experimental design and analysis strategy for single-cell assays and method developments
Your profile
Required education/skills:
- A science degree in data science, applied math, applied statistics, bioinformatics, computer science, systems biology, biotechnology or the like
- Solid programming skills in the scripting languages Python or R
- Experience developing bioinformatics pipelines in pipeline management tools such as Snakemake or Nextflow
- Solid experience in processing, analysis and interpretation of single cell transcriptomics assays using tools such as Seurat, Scanpy, Cell Ranger and Salmon Alevin.
- Experience in using the Unix/Linux operating system.
Personal skills:
- Motivated and hardworking personality with good social skills
- Motivated to instruct researchers with less advanced programming skills in using the Platform’s computational workflows
- Excellent written and oral English communication skills
- Ability to disseminate findings and expert knowledge to users at seminars
Desirable criteria:
- Experience in analyzing single-cell epigenetics data
- Experience in analyzing spatial transcriptomics data
- Experience working with data visualization
- Experience in working with machine learning techniques.
- Experience working with cloud computing

Place of employment
The place of employment is the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
Terms of salary and employment
The employment as a bioinformatician is a full-time position for 1-year starting as soon as possible.
Employment will be as Academic Research Officer or Research Consultant in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations), with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications.
