Assistant Professor in Proton Transfer Reaction Mass Spectrometry, Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen

A part-time position is open in a project assessing bidirectional exchange of reactive hydrocarbons between arctic ecosystems and the atmosphere. In this project, we will conduct laboratory and field experiments in order to get a better understanding of the controls of emission and deposition of biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs). BVOCs will be measured using proton transfer reaction-mass spectrometry (PTR-MS) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to assess the temporal patterns, environmental controls and the diversity of the compounds exchanged.

The main tasks for the Assistant Professor will be to develop experimental setups for real-time BVOC measurements by PTR-TOF-MS instrument, to conduct PTR-MS measurements including relevant problem-solving and calibration, and to analyze complex PTR-TOF datasets by dedicated software.   

The position is for 9.25 hours per week and it will be filled for two years and 7 months. The work will be carried out at Terrestrial Ecology Section, Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen. The position is to be filled June 1st, 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Qualifications:
We are looking for an expert in online measurements of BVOCs with experience in analysis of PTR-TOF-MS data with the following mandatory qualities:

  • PhD in Meteorology or similar
  • Hands-on expertise with independent handling of PTR-MS instruments in the laboratory and in the field
  • Experience in PTRwid software.
  • Experience in Arctic field work
  • Fluency in English

Procedures:

Salary and terms of employment:
Terms of employment and payment are in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). For Assistant Professors the salary is based on seniority and is currently between DKK 32,745 and DKK 34,476 full-time and between DKK 8,186 and DKK 8,619 part-time per month plus pension contribution and the possibility to negotiate further supplement.
