Assistant or Associate professor in Neuropsychology

The position is primarily affiliated with the research section specializing in Cognition, Development, and Clinical Psychology. Emphasis within this section is on conducting research in these specific areas of psychology.

The new faculty member will have and maintain a strong research portfolio in one or more areas of neuropsychology and will conduct research and teach within at least three of the following areas:

  • Neuropsychology
  • Biological psychology
  • Neuroscience
  • Cognitive psychology
  • Experimental psychology
  • Quantitative methods

In terms of teaching
The Assistant/Associate Professor is expected to deliver high quality teaching, supervision, and associated examination, as required across the range of modules offered on the Bachelor and Master program in Psychology.

In relation to teaching, applicants should document: 

  • Demonstrated experience, skills, and achievements illustrating the capacity or potential to provide high-quality teaching. Proficiency in employing various pedagogical approaches, such as problem-based learning, project supervision, group work, interactive seminars, and lectures.
  • Ability to teach, supervise, and assess written and oral performances in Danish. International applicants are expected to learn Danish within a foreseeable time. The position may also involve teaching in English.
  • Aalborg University operates on a problem-based learning model(PBL). While documented experience with PBL is not obligatory, having such experience would be beneficial. If you have not undergone a PBL course, it will be a requirement to do so within your initial year of employment.

In terms of research
The position includes research at an international level and applicants are expected to have research experience in one or more of the above-mentioned areas. 

The Assistant/Associate Professor is expected to undertake research and publish research output of an internationally recognized quality and engage in external research networks and collaborations. 

In relation to research, applicants should document:

  • Proven expertise, skills, and accomplishments showcasing the capacity or potential to generate top-notch research outputs and contribute to international, peer-reviewed publications.
  • A research plan aligning with the research strategy of the Department of Communication and Psychology, illustrating the capability to initiate novel research endeavors.
  • Accomplishments, skills, and experiences highlighting the ability or potential to cultivate external and/or international networks and collaborations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency, skills, and achievements indicating the capability or potential to participate in endeavors beyond academia, fostering impactful research outcomes through engagement with non-academic entities.
  • Experience with securing external funding is advantageous but not mandatory.

The position is integral to advancing the strategic objectives of the Department, particularly in strengthening our foundations in the science of psychology. Essential research activities include close collaboration and active engagement with fellow researchers within the designated research section.

Experience, achievements and skills that suggest the ability or potential to work collaboratively with colleagues within the department and designated section as well as with colleagues at other departments. 

Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
A position as assistant professor is a fixed-term training position which includes an obligation to carry our research and teaching activities. To a limited extent, additional tasks may be defined by the University. The appointment includes a requirement to attend a course in university pedagogy for assistant professors organised by the University.

The employment as assistant professor must not exceed a total period of four years at the same institution(a maximum of six years at assistant professor level at AAU and a maximum of eight years at assistant professor level in Denmark).

The formal qualification requirement for at position as assistant professor is a PhD degree or academic qualifications at PhD level.

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
A position as associate professor is a permanent appointment which included an obligation to carry our research and teaching activities. To some extent, additional tasks may be defined by the University.

The formal qualification requirement for the position as associate professor is research qualifications corresponding to the level achieved from a successful employment period as an assistant professor/researcher, or achieved otherwise. The applicant must document scientific production at an international level. Furthermore, it is presupposed that the applicants have received supervision and pedagogical upgrading and a positive written evaluation of teaching qualifications.

Moreover it will be an advantage, but not a prerequisite, that applicants for the position as associate professor have experienace with Problem Based Learning(PBL) which is Aalborg University's teaching philosophy.

ASSESSMENT
Applicants will be assessed by an assessment committee.

Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select applicants for assessment. Before the shortlisting takes place, all applicants will get the opportunity to comment on the composition of the assessment committee. All applicants will be informed whether they are selected for assessment or not.

All assessed applicants will get the opportunity to comment on their own assessment, and may be invited to an interview and/or asked to give a trial lecture.

When the employment process has been terminated, a final rejection will be sent to the applicants who are not considered for the position.

Wages and employment

Appointment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities(the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Higher Educatio and Science's Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Salary is in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confereration of Professional Associations(AC) o Academics in the State.
