Offer Description

Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Bioanalytical Chemistry (Biopharmaceuticals and Protein drug targets)

Department of Pharmacy
Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
University of Copenhagen

The University seeks to appoint a tenure track assistant professor to commence as soon as possible.

Information on the Department can be found at: https://healthsciences.ku.dk/ .

Job description

The position lies within the field of (bio)analytical chemistry, which is one of the focus areas of the Department in teaching and research. The tenure track assistant professor will be affiliated to the Protein Analysis Group, which conducts research focusing on the analysis of proteins and oligonucleotides of pharmaceutical interest. This includes quantification, characterization of protein and peptide primary structure, as well as of higher-order structure and interactions of proteins, in addition to development of new advanced mass spectrometric methods and separation workflows. The overall aim of the research is to provide detailed information on the purity, quantity, quality, structure, and interactions of proteins to guide and improve drug development. Methodologies in the group focus on LC-MS for qualitative/structural analysis of proteins including primary structure analysis and higher-order structure analysis by HDX-MS. Furthermore, the development and use of new advanced MS methodologies (e.g. XL-MS/HDX-MS/AP-MS) and relevant data science skills for analysis of biopharmaceuticals, vaccines (DNA/mRNA, protein), protein drug targets and their drug interactions will be important to this position.

The candidate should preferably have expertise within analytical chemistry and LC-MS of biomolecules, such as biopharmaceuticals or protein drug targets (e.g. mRNA/DNA vaccines, peptides or proteins).

Teaching is an important and substantial part of the tenure track. Besides mandatory participation in formal pedagogical training, the candidate is expected to actively engage in educational activities at the department. Educational activities include performing and developing research-based teaching in the department’s overall teaching catalogue (Bachelor, Master, and Ph.D levels) with main emphasis on the bachelor teaching activities of the department. A specific focus will be teaching in analytical chemistry at bachelor level for developing qualifications to become a future course responsible.

The tenure track assistant professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • research, including publication/academic dissemination, as well as grant writing and other activities to secure research grants
  • research-based teaching
  • sharing knowledge with society
  • participation in formal pedagogical training program for assistant professors
  • participation in other activities within the department, such as organization of seminars and participation in working groups

Performance in relation to these responsibilities/tasks will be evaluated annually. Furthermore, the tenure track assistant professor will be evaluated in a mid-track appraisal.

After no more than six years of employment and on condition of a positive final appraisal, the tenure track assistant professor will be employed as associate professor. Read more about tenure track at the University of Copenhagen here: http://employment.ku.dk/tenure-track/tenure-track-at-ucph/
