Non-academic Staff Member - Project Researcher for the Department of Animal Nutrition and Forage Production
Research field: entomology
We are a modern university, teaching and researching agriculture, forestry, economic and technical disciplines in regional and international contexts. Since 2018, we have been the holder of the HR Excellence in Research Award for improving employee care, awarded to us as the first Czech university by the European Commission.
The aim of the project "Development of technology for growing seeds of semi-parasitic plants and their application in reducing of invasive species of lowland meadow wetlands" is to develop a technology for growing seeds of semi-parasitic plants Odontites vernus and Melampyrum arvense and to present widely applicable procedures for suppressing plant invasions in lowland meadow wetlands, which will significantly contribute to the restoration and more efficient care of overgrown wetland habitats.
What will you be doing with us?
- collect entomological material at sites in the valley of the Spálený potok near Krumvíř and Krč near Břeclav, using appropriate collection methods (earth traps, individual collection and analysis of cattle excreta and washing)
- process the samples collected
- determine beetle samples
- evaluate the data collected, including interpretation and processing into proposed outputs/outcomes
What are our requirements?
- a postgraduate degree in conservation and entomology or a related field
- experience in the collection and assessment of entomological samples, especially the determination of beetles (Coleoptera), including vacuuming, sweeping and ground trapping methods; previous involvement in applied research projects of at least 3 months
- excellent knowledge of Czech language, ability to work with text in English
- experience of working in a laboratory including sample processing, data analysis and statistical evaluation
- active driving of a car (driving licence B.)
