About this position

CEITEC MU employs more than 500 people from over 35 countries, working on more than 150 ongoing projects and publishing more than 300 scientific publications per year. Our centre attracts top EU grants and has an annual budget of nearly 32 million euros and investments that exceed 6,6 million euros. Our researchers are pushing the boundaries of current knowledge in the areas of structural biology, molecular medicine, genomics and proteomics of plant systems, and neuroscience.

We are looking for an experienced researcher to join CEITEC as the Head of Josef Dadok National NMR Centre, which provides access to high field NMR spectrometers for studies of structure, dynamics, and interactions of biomolecules as well as a broad range of other applications in chemistry, physics, biology and material science.

You will become a valued member of our CEITEC scientific community and work as a technology-oriented scientist and team leader alongside 29 other research group leaders and 11 core facility heads.

Your role

  • head a team responsible for running an NMR facility consisting currently of six NMR spectrometers in the range of frequencies from 500 to 950 MHz and a simple EPR spectrometer
  • pursue opportunities for funding research infrastructures at national and European levels to ensure the sustainability of the facility
  • plan the development of the facility according to the technological innovations in the field and the needs of the research community
  • together with the facility staff, implement new methods, and train and support users in their applications
  • recruit, lead, supervise, and mentor members of your core facility
  • work in collaboration with scientific partners to develop joint research projects 
  • interact with the international scientific community via conferences and special events

The tasks are not limited to the above, and a flexible approach and ability to adapt to evolving situations in a dynamic organization is required.

Required competencies

  • advanced degree (PhD or equivalent) in physical, chemical, or life sciences
  • thorough knowledge of the theory and practice of magnetic resonance spectroscopy
  • proven record of research achievements demonstrated by publications in international scientific journals
  • good communication skills in Czech/Slovak and English languages; knowledge of other languages is an advantage
  • strategical thinking for planning of the operation and development of the core facility
  • commitment to your own ongoing professional development and ability to supervise early-stage researchers and act as a mentor for others
  • strong organizational skills and leadership competencies 
  • motivated and collaborative mindset
  • service-oriented approach
