We are looking for an outstanding candidate to undertake original research and establish a new laboratory. The proposed research should focus on the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying (i) obesity-related co-morbidities, namely diabetes and cardiovascular disease; (ii) neurodegenerative diseases and related pathologies; and/or (iii) other topics of metabolic, cardiovascular, and neuroscience research compatible with the scientific goals of the institute (seehttps://www.fgu.cas.cz/en/about ). Applicants active in molecular, cell and developmental biology, physiology, biochemistry or clinically oriented research are encouraged to apply.
Eligibility: Up to 12 years after Ph.D. graduation (excluding maternity leave), as of 31 January 2024.
Selection criteria: Applicants will be selected on the basis of academic merit, i.e., the quality of their research proposal, publication record, and postdoctoral training. A vital asset will be intellectual independence as documented, for example, by independent publications (corresponding author) or previous (grant) awards. Securing additional funding is not a condition for applying for this start-up but will be an important condition for extending the start-up’s funding beyond the initial three years.
Two-stage application procedure (all documents in English): Stage 1: Submission of the following documents to [email protected] by 1 April 2024: (i) a letter of intent (research proposal) outlining the project (two A4 pages; single-spaced, font 11); (ii) professional CV; (iii) PhD diploma/certificate; (iv) two letters of recommendation. The results of Stage 1 will be announced by 1 May 2024. Stage 2: Short-listed candidates will be invited to submit full proposals (max. six A4 pages) within 30 days and give a public lecture during their interview at the Institute of Physiology. The successful candidate should take up his/her position as soon as possible but not later than 30 June 2025.
