Middlesex University London is recruiting for two exciting new Lecturer positions in Visual Communication Design (Graphic Design and Visual Cultures) at our joint education institute in partnership with Minzu of University China (MUC) on the tropical island of Hainan, China.

Minzu University of China (MUC) is ranked first in China among universities for ethnic minority studies. MUC aims to be one of the best universities of its kind in the world for inheriting and promoting the cultures of all ethnic groups and is one of the most prestigious universities in China in ethnology, anthropology, ethnic economies, regional economics, religion studies, history, dance, and fine arts.  MUC has two long established campuses in Beijing (Haidian Campus and Fengtai Campus) and has created a brand new third Hainan campus in partnership with Middlesex University London to deliver joint degree programmes in Arts and Creative Industries programmes.

To support our joint degree provision in BA and MA Visual Communication Design, we are now looking to recruit two lecturers to join our new team.

The Lecturers in Visual Communication Design will provide inspirational creative practice, learning and teaching in visual communication design / graphic design and visual cultures, and knowledge transfer to the benefit of students, the Joint Institute and the wider community.

You will be an ambitious self-starter, a creative graphic design educator and an ambassador for the successful reputation for the BA and MA Visual Communication Design programmes and the Joint Institute.  Your focus will be to deliver innovative teaching and learning, maximise student engagement, and work with colleagues to contribute to recruitment, progression, achievement, and an outstanding student experience.  You will deliver and further develop a curriculum that reflects the needs of the contemporary graphic design industry in China and meets the needs of students to engage with the diverse international contexts for graphic design. 

We welcome applicants who combine both theory and practice in graphic design and can speak authoritatively on art/ visual culture and the history of ideas and how these have shaped and influenced the visual landscapes of graphic design, to support students in researching and presenting the various historical, social and cultural context/s of their creative practice.

The posts will be based in Hainan campus of the joint education institute. Hainan is a beautiful tropical province, consisting of Hainan Island and various smaller islands in the South China Sea, in the southernmost province of China. 

Candidates must be able to meet the Chinese visa requirements; Middlesex University will assist with obtaining a visa. Any offer of employment for this role is also conditional upon satisfactory clearance from DBS and obtaining a satisfactory basic DBS certificate. A satisfactory basic DBS certificate is required in order to obtain a visa and/or work permit to lawfully work in Hainan, China.
