Updated: 26 days ago
Deadline: 09 Apr 2024

The Institute of Astrophysical Studies at Universidad Diego Portales (UDP), in Chile, invites applications for a 1.5-year postdoctoral research position in extragalactic astrophysics, with possible extensions associated with external funding. The successful applicant will work on observational studies of Active Galactic Nuclei in the High-Energy Research on Obscuration and Emission in Supermassive black holes (HEROES) team led by Prof. Claudio Ricci. Applicants are expected to have experience in AGN research; familiarity with ALMA and/or X-ray data reduction and analysis will be considered an asset. A portion of time will be allocated for independent research.

Santiago hosts a large and vibrant scientific community working on AGN, with over 50 scientists distributed in four universities and three institutes. While at UDP, successful candidates will qualify as members of the Chilean community and will be eligible for the 10% access to all observatories in Chile (including ALMA, Gemini South, VLT, Magellan, CTIO, SOAR, and La Silla) and access to large surveys like the Vera Rubin LSST, SDSS-V and CCAT/FYST.

Applications should be submitted by e-mail in pdf format to [email protected] by April 9, 2024 to ensure full consideration. Later applications will be accepted until the position is filled. The applications should include a 1-page research statement (including current and previous research), and a CV (with a publication list). In addition, applicants should provide the names and contact information of two references willing to provide letters of recommendation on request.
