DUTIES

ESTR Career Exploration LTC posting The University and Employment Preparation Department, Faculty of Education and Social Work, invites applications for the position of Limited Term Lecturer in the Career Exploration stream of the Education and Skills Training (ESTR) program. The program provides students with barriers to employment the knowledge, skills and training needed for entry-level job opportunities. The successful applicant will have the ability to foster a supportive and dynamic learning environment for young and mature adults who are working towards entry level employment positions and are working towards achieving greater independence.

 

It is expected that the successful candidate will implement the use of sound teaching methods in lectures, labs and practica; develop and implement clear learning objectives / outcomes in lectures, labs and practica; maintain and create quality and safe learning environments and contribute to instructional knowledge.

Additional job duties will include:

• Participating in the recruitment and selection of students

• Evaluating student performance and being available for student consultation

• Developing and supervising practicum placements

• Liaising with employers to support students in their practicum placements

• Developing recruitment information and marketing materials.

The position will require service to the Program, Department, Faculty, TRU, and the wider community. Engagement in the scholarship of teaching in this field is expected.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Master’s degree in a relevant discipline, or Red Seal in a relevant field required. Teaching Certificate, or Instructor’s Diploma, or Special Education Certificate required.

Experience:
• Working with students with intellectual, developmental disabilities, learning disabilities, other neuro-diverse abilities required.
• Employment preparation / supporting students through the career planning and career decision making process required.
• Work placement skills, practicum coordination experience with connections to local businesses required.
• Valid Driver's License and access to a vehicle required.
• Project-based learning, experiential learning, and/or integrated work based learning with knowledge of the work setting relevant to the courses to be taught preferred.
• Experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action 63) preferred.
• Skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect (TRC CA 62) preferred.
• Teaching excellence, including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10) preferred.


Pay Band
$73,665.93 - $114,124.39 ( According to TRUFA Salary Schedule (Range TS01 - TS12) )
