As NAIT continues to grow its student body and lead the way in hands-on learning, we are recruiting skilled and passionate individuals to help inspire and train current and future industry professionals and become part of Canada’s leading polytechnic.
The Heavy Equipment Technician program will train you to maintain, repair and overhaul heavy vehicles and industrial equipment, both towed and self-propelled. The heavy equipment industry is very diverse, and typically apprentices specialize in a certain field of repair.
Heavy Equipment Technician program is currently recruiting for Temporary instructors who are energetic leaders, committed to student success, and have outstanding communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. The successful candidates will:
- have strong technical knowledge in Heavy Equipment.
- be able to work both independently and within a team environment
- bring passion, enthusiasm, and ideas that will positively contribute to the advancement and growth of the program and the culture of our collaborative and dynamic team
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and present learning outcomes and activities in a classroom, laboratory and industry setting
- Participate in curriculum development, program reviews and course reviews
- Facilitate the learning process by utilizing instructional strategies that ensure efficient and effective delivery of course materials
- Manage instructional delivery and set the tone and climate for a safe and effective learning environment
- Create assessment tools to evaluate the learning process and maintain progress records
- Provide early and on-going coaching and tutoring for students to maximize student success and retention
- Respond to student issues
- Utilize appropriate educational technology for presentations, communications and program promotions
- Maintenance and/or submission of program/student records accurately and promptly
- Maintain professional and ethical relationships with students, colleagues, and industry partners
- Actively participate in the strategies of NAIT’s Strategic Plan and NAIT’s Academic Plan as identified by the institute
- Utilize regular student feedback to identify and implement instructional improvement
- Improve the quality of instruction through professional development activities
- Other duties as assigned
Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal Skills
- Strong desire to help students succeed
- Excellent communication skills
- Knowledge of computers
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- Completion of Heavy Equipment Journeyperson ticket or provincial equivalent including Inter-Provincial Red Seal required
- Minimum 5 years recent industry experience after completion of Journeyperson ticket.
- Teaching experience an asset
Remuneration: Will commensurate with education and experience, plus 18.5% in lieu of statuary holidays and vacation. Instructor salary grid $34.48 - $59.98 per hour, however, starting hourly wage for a new hire averages between $41.76 – 45.41 per hour based on education and experience. (Classification – Instructor).
This position is covered by the NAIT Academic Staff Association (NASA) Collective Agreement
