Primary Purpose:
The primary goal of the Study Abroad Program Coordinator position is to assist in the coordination and promotion of Study Abroad programs and learning opportunities for students in the College of Arts & Science. This position primarily supports international travel study programs within the College. The Study Abroad Program Coordinator will work with the Manager of Study Abroad, staff in the college as well as staff in the International Students and Study Abroad Centre to assist in promotion and maintenance of Study Abroad programs.
Reporting to the Manager, Study Abroad and Interdisciplinary Programs, the Study Abroad Coordinator is responsible for promoting of the international outbound mobility of Arts and Science students and the activities that enhance internationalization in the College of Arts and Science through the promotion it’s taught and term abroad programs. The successful incumbent has international experience and education, strong cross-cultural sensitivity and communication skills.
Nature of Work:
The Study Abroad Coordinator will support the vision, mission, values and strategic direction of the College of Arts and Science’s Study Abroad office, and contribute to a positive, supportive and student- focused team environment of high performance, respect, trust, collaboration and continuous improvement; embraces diversity and fosters inclusion. It therefore entails significant interaction with faculty, and academic leaders, individually and in groups.
Typical Duties or Accountabilities:
This position exercises judgment and in-depth analysis to define problems and issues; collects and analyzes information; establishes facts; identifies solutions; and works collaboratively with travel study programs and internships across campus.
A high degree of autonomy, initiative, and independence is expected and required within the reporting structure. This position is expected to be self-motivated, collaborative and work productively with little supervision. It communicates complex and specialized information to a variety of audiences.
Working conditions require innovation and flexibility and may be stressful given the high volume of work, and require the ability to work under pressure (ongoing medium to high level of stress) in a fast-paced environment where competing deadlines and multi-tasking is the norm. The standard for the quality of work and timely completion of projects is high.
Qualifications:
Education: An Arts and Science Bachelor’s degree (with a focus on international development studies, globalization, North-South relations, multicultural studies, or equivalent).
Experience: A university level experience working with undergraduate students and the educational process in service-related roles, and experience working with university personnel from various academic and non-academic units. Have participated in a Study Abroad program. Experience with DegreeWorks would be considered an asset.
Skills:
- Ability to work independently, collaboratively or as part of a team.
- This position requires excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal and organizational skills, and strong leading, motivating and team-member skills.
- Proficiency in computer skills to compose and develop written reports, spreadsheets and correspondence; the ability to maintain a high standard of professional communications (verbal, written and electronic) in all activities;
- Possess a thorough understanding of Arts & Science degree structures and programs are necessary in this role.
- Demonstrated familiarity with and sensitivity to cultural diversity and fostering inclusivity.
- Strong initiative and results-orientation, and coordination and project management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, relationship building, and public relations skills are essential.
- Strong event-planning skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with staff and faculty is important.
- The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines collaboratively, exercise effective judgment, prioritize and multi-task within a fast paced, high-volume environment is essential.

Salary: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $52,050.00 - 81,328.00 per annum. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
