LocationThis role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. On-site work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.

About the College of Health Sciences

The College of Health Sciences brings together the combined strength of all our health sciences faculties and schools, enabling a new level of interdisciplinary health science research and teaching that advances the full spectrum of human health and wellness in individuals and communities around the world. It is comprised of six faculties, over 700 faculty members and 7,200 undergraduate and graduate students.

Position Summary

The College of Health Sciences is developing ten non-credit microcredential courses. Each course will include 1-2 simulation experiences in health settings/contexts which can be customized to the learning needs of students, health professionals and/or the external partners.  To support the Microcredential development and implementation work we seek a part-time Simulation Coordinator for a period of one year. Coordination and communication with key partners (e.g., scenario developers and college staff) will also be part of the role. The Simulation Coordinator, in collaboration with CHS Office of Education is responsible for ensuring that students have the best possible learning environment and support for a positive simulation experience that contributes to and enhances their learning.

Duties

  • Participate in case development, working with developer and simulation program staff to provide accurate case content and participant training details. This may include the development of learning objectives, case-specific information, simulation scripts, evaluation checklists, and debriefing or feedback details. 
  • Mentor CHS staff re: simulation best practices and ensure best practice principles related to simulation are followed in the development.
  • Promote and facilitate the use of Simulation methodology. Working with existing or new case developers, the Simulation Coordinator will provide knowledge and examples of how to best utilize simulation-based education to meet the needs of the clients and their learners.
  • Assists in the preparation of HSERC simulation facilities for teaching or testing events. Assist in staging and implementing simulations, when required.
  • Liaise with staff in HSERC to book rooms for simulation activities (pilot, non-credit).
  • Work with CHS and HSERC staff to coordinate learning experiences (booking standardized patients).
  • Instruct (facilitate) pre-briefing and debriefing for students, during simulation sessions.
  • Help to schedule and train casual staff to assist with simulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Knowledge and understanding of simulation methodology
  • Formalized training in simulation-based education, with experience in health education
