Reporting to the Receiving Supervisor, this position acts as an intermediary for the safe and timely transit of goods between departments and their suppliers; accurately and efficiently receiving incoming shipments and processing them in accordance with established procedures.  The Shipper/Receiver will prepare outgoing shipments ensuring the accurate completion of appropriate paperwork and provide resolution to shipping and receiving discrepancies in coordination with appropriate personnel.

This position requires heavy visual concentration and/or physical exertion, effort, and strain. Forces exerted are equivalent to lifting between 11-23 kg (25-50 lbs) and safety equipment or precautions may be required.


Responsibilities
  • Physical receipt of goods – accept inbound courier, mail, and freight shipments, verifying their completeness and ensuring that all visible damage is documented.
  • Preparation of outbound courier, mail and freight shipments – complete courier waybills, freight bills, commercial invoices & TDG shipper’s declarations and assists with packaging when required.
  • Monitor courier and freight charges in order to obtain the most cost-efficient shipping rates.
  • Help ensure that applicable customs and TDG regulations are followed for all inbound and outbound shipments processed by Receiving.
  • File claims for shipments that are lost or damaged in transit.
  • Log inbound shipments in accordance with department procedures.
  • Accurately clear goods for payment in Banner as they arrive.
  • Assist the Delivery Clerk with the delivery of heavy or oversized shipments or in the absence of the Delivery Clerk deliver inbound shipments to departments themselves.
  • Cross-train with the Mail Clerk position to help provide adequate vacation relief.
  • Assist the Receiving Supervisor with surplus disposal (e-waste, scrap metal, auction items).
  • Help maintain a clean and safe working environment in the Receiving office and dock area, and report unsafe conditions and practices to the Receiving Supervisor and/or EH&S.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 2 to 3 years of related experience including a thorough knowledge of shipping/receiving and logistics environment
  • Computer skills including MS Office and Google applications
  • Basic knowledge of customs documentation requirements
  • Interpersonal skills to maintain respectful relationships with internal and external contacts
  • Demonstrated organization and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize.
  • Ability to learn new technology and keep current in logistics field.

Salary:                                $49,774 - $63,004 per annum
