Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Health & Counselling Services, the incumbent will primarily work with students who have experienced sexual assault/trauma. The incumbent will assess client’s psychological and emotional development; plans and implements therapeutic interventions; participates in the ongoing evaluation of counselling service delivery. The incumbent is responsible to provide quality health care to the Carleton University community in accordance with the policies, goals and objectives of Health & Counselling Services.
Qualifications:
The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
• Previous or current experience providing psychotherapy to individuals who have experienced sexual assault/trauma.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to develop a therapeutic relationship with the student.
• Sensitivity and an unbiased approach is critical.
• Client-centred perspective.
• Capable of working independently but also has experience working in a shared care model.
• Understanding of the developmental stage of this age group and the unique stresses experienced by students in post-secondary education.
• Excellent time management skills - important to stay on time with appointments.
• Flexible and able to respond to unscheduled urgent situations.
• Recognizes limitations, knows when to consult and seeks supervision when appropriate.
Education and Experience:
The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
• Master’s degree in Social Work/Education
• Current valid registration with Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Worker or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario
• Five years working as a counsellor and psychotherapist in the area of sexual assault/trauma of which at least two years are in a university or college setting

Health and Safety Requirements
This position is regularly required to work on campus in person. In the event of a public health emergency or a health and safety issue, it is possible that you may be required to work temporarily remotely due to public health orders, directives and/or health and safety requirements. If this happens, you will work with your direct manager to set up a remote work environment including discussing appropriate technology and requirements. You are required to follow all University policies and directives, including to set up a safe and confidential workspace in a remote location and ensure all Carleton property (intellectual and other) is safeguarded. If required to work remotely, you will be notified by your manager when working full time physically onsite will resume.
