Position: Sessional Lecturer I (1 position available)

Course title and code: New Product Innovation - APS1023H

Course description: This course examines technical and organizational aspects of managing new products and process innovations. Topics include human creativity and problem solving, product design and development, product feasibility assessments, requirements engineering, managing research and development, project management, team communication, technology implementation, and innovation strategy.

Estimated Enrolment: Approximately 30 students

Estimated TA support: TBA

Class schedule: One three-hour lecture per week; timetable to be determined.

Sessional date of appointment: Summer May-July 2024.

Salary: Minimum level of pay is $9,457.89 (Sessional Lecturer I), which includes vacation pay, and may increase depending on applicant’s level of experience and suitability for the position.

Qualifications: Applicants must have extensive experience in and knowledge of the intricacies involved in the management of new products and process innovations. This includes knowledge of and skills in product design and development processes, effective problem solving techniques, effective team communication techniques, as well as the engineering requirements for such innovations. The applicant must have strong skills in managing and evaluating product development and research, with a strong understanding of industry wide processes, organizational challenges, and the significance of Intellectual Property, Marketing, Finance, Strategy, and Manufacturing. Applicants should have a strong record of presenting lectures. The applicant must be able to lecture in a clear voice, and explain concepts clearly.

Brief description of duties: Duties include: preparation of lectures and course materials, delivery of lectures; possible supervision of Teaching Assistants; setting and marking of projects, tests and exams; evaluation of final grades; contact with students.
