Course Code: KPE366H: Ergonomics 

Course description: This course examines the elementary concepts of ergonomics. We will explore ergonomics in a variety of practice settings and discuss risk factors contributing to repetitive strain (cumulative trauma) at various ages focusing primarily on the spine and upper extremity and the consequential economic and human burden. We will discuss the stakeholders and measures to enhance ergonomics including adapting the work/activity and the elements of the environment to match the individual’s capacity, to reduce occupational injuries and enhance productivity, comfort, satisfaction and safety. Six hours of practical experience focused on manual material handling and work stations and technology will be embedded in the course.

Estimated course enrolment:  60 

Class schedule: Mondays 4:00-7:00pm 

Sessional dates of appointment: September 1, 2024 - December 31, 2024 


Appointment percentage: 0.5 FCE 

Salary:  Sessional Lecturer I:  $9,457.90 includes 4% vacation pay 

Sessional Lecturer I Long Term:  $9,930.79 includes 6% vacation pay 

Sessional Lecturer II:  $10,121.77 includes 6%  vacation pay 

Sessional Lecturer II Long Term:  $10,326.62 includes 6% vacation pay 

Sessional Lecturer III:  $10,362.76 includes 6% vacation pay 

Sessional Lecturer III Long Term: $10,570.02 includes 6% vacation pay 

Minimum Qualifications: PhD preferred in a relevant area, or combination of relevant expertise and experience. Teaching experience in college or university setting is an asset. 


Preferred Qualifications: Over and above the minimum qualifications, preference will be given to individuals with prior graduate teaching experience in this area. 

Description of duties: All duties associated with the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration, and marking of assignments, tests, and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; supervising TAs assigned to the course, if applicable. This course will be taught in an in-person format in the 2024-2025 academic year.
