Course number and title: GLA1016HF – Human Rights and Global Justice (LEC0101 & LEC0102)
Course description: The lecturer will teach a new first year course for the MGA cohort on “global justice,” which will focus on the interactions between international organizations and national institutions of government and prepare students for second year courses in the justice steam at the Munk School. The lecturer should have first-hand experience collaborating with government officials responsible for administering criminal justice in a wide range of countries, including Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Canada and the United States, as well as with officials at the ICC and UNOHCHR. The lecturer also should have demonstrated teaching experience and publications in several of the following areas: illicit economies, corruption, criminal justice, human rights, police violence. Because the purpose of instruction at the Munk School is to help students understand the dilemmas faced by government officials, the lecturer should be able to involve practitioners in the classroom.

Class schedule: Friday 10am-1 pm (LEC0101) & 2-5pm (LEC0102)

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2025 - April 30, 2025
Salary:
Sessional Lecturer I: $9,457.90 per section
Sessional Lecturer I Long Term: $9,930.80 per section
Sessional Lecturer II $10,121.77 per section
Sessional Lecturer II Long Term: $10,326.62 per section
Sessional Lecturer III: $10,362.76 per section
Sessional Lecturer III Long Term: $10,570.02 per section
Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Political Science with a focus in criminal justice.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience teaching in the area is preferred.
Description of duties: Developing the syllabus, teaching two 3-hour lectures per week at the graduate level, providing weekly office hours for academic counseling of students, preparing and delivering course material; preparing and delivering assignments and tests; marking student work and submitting grades.
