Course description:

The course will provide students with knowledge of the physiology of neurons, muscle and sensory systems by demonstrating the biophysical, ionic, and molecular bases of cellular excitability. Topics include the forces that govern ion movement through solution, the electrical properties of the cell membrane, the molecular properties of ion channels, and the molecular physiology of neuronal excitability, synaptic transmission, neuromodulation, and muscle contraction. (0.5 FCE)

Effective January 1, 2023 - Sessional Lecturer I - $18,364.84 (Y, full course) & $9,182.42 (H, half Course, 0.5 FCE) & $4,591.21 (0.25 FCE); Sessional Lecturer I Long Term - $19,283.09 (Y, full course) & $9,641.55 (H, half Course, 0.5 FCE); Sessional Lecturer II - $19,653.91 (Y, full course) & $9,826.96 (H, half Course, 0.5 FCE); Sessional Lecturer II Long Term - $20,051.68 (Y, full course) & $10,025.84 (H, half Course, 0.5 FCE); Sessional Lecturer III - $20,121.86 (Y, full course) & $10,060.93 (H, half Course, 0.5 FCE). Sessional Lecturer III Long Term - $20,524.30 (Y, full course) & $10,262.15 (H, half Course, 0.5 FCE); All pay rates are inclusive of vacation pay.

Qualifications:The candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in Biology or related field. The decision on hiring will be based on previous teaching experience in this course or other similar courses, academic qualifications, ability, and suitability for the position.

Description of duties:Normal duties associated with teaching a university course, including preparation and delivery of course content, development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams, calculation and submission of grades, contact with students by regular office hours.  Completion of all grades (may include make-up exams).
