Course Description: 

An introduction to the scientific study of ecology, emphasizing the structure and dynamics of populations, communities and ecosystems. Topics include population growth and regulation, competition, predation, biodiversity, succession, and nutrient cycling. Classic models and studies will be supplemented with both plant and animal examples. (0.5 FCE)

Prerequisites: (BIO152H5  and BIO153H5 ) or (ENV100Y5  for students in Environmental Programs)

Salary (In accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement):

Effective January 1, 2023 - Sessional Lecturer I - $18,364.84 (Y, full course) & $9,182.42 (H, half Course, 0.5 FCE) & $4,591.21 (0.25 FCE); Sessional Lecturer I Long Term - $19,283.09 (Y, full course) & $9,641.55 (H, half Course, 0.5 FCE); Sessional Lecturer II - $19,653.91 (Y, full course) & $9,826.96 (H, half Course, 0.5 FCE); Sessional Lecturer II Long Term - $20,051.68 (Y, full course) & $10,025.84 (H, half Course, 0.5 FCE); Sessional Lecturer III - $20,121.86 (Y, full course) & $10,060.93 (H, half Course, 0.5 FCE). Sessional Lecturer III Long Term - $20,524.30 (Y, full course) & $10,262.15 (H, half Course, 0.5 FCE); All pay rates are inclusive of vacation pay.

Qualifications:The candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in Biology or related field. The decision on hiring will be based on previous teaching experience in this course or other similar courses, academic qualifications, ability, and suitability for the position.

Description of duties:Normal duties associated with teaching a university course, including preparation and delivery of course content, development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams, calculation and submission of grades, contact with students by regular office hours.  Completion of all grades (may include make-up exams).
