Your opportunity:

The Office of the Comptroller and Chief Financial Officer provides financial expertise to senior leaders required to support the achievement of the Faculty’s strategic goals and objectives. Comprised of an accomplished team of strategic-minded specialists, the office serves as a hub between departments and the University’s central financial portfolios, provides support, guidance and training to departments on financial matters, and oversees revenue sharing distributions.

As Senior Financial Analyst, you will perform a broad range of duties in support of Faculty planning, reporting and financial management, and liaise with a range of clients and external parties to resolve issues and provide guidance and advice. You will also contribute to a number of strategic finance projects aimed at translating complex financial analysis into actionable insights for Faculty-wide space planning, budget planning, enrolment planning and financial forecast purposes.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and preparing complex financial models, analyses and schedules to facilitate financial control and inform senior management in decision making and long-term planning
  • Providing advice and data to support the development of business cases and analytics for department initiatives
  • Analyzing and making recommendations for financial management and accounting process improvements, including budget allocations involving multiple sources of revenue and recoveries
  • Managing external financial reporting and financial activity related to the flow of salary and benefit funding commitments between the Faculty and external agencies
  • Processing accounts receivable/payable according to the University Guide to Financial Management
  • Serving as subject matter expert resource to senior leadership and finance administrators across the faculty


Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and completion of a recognized accounting program (CMA, CGA, CA), or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum five years’ related financial experience in modeling, analysis and external financial reporting, in a University (ideally in a medical school) or similar public sector environment
  • Experience processing accounts receivable/accounts payable processes
  • Experience with the maintenance of complex financial models and data used for enrollment planning
  • Experience working with spreadsheets, analyzing financial data and statistics and producing complex reports
  • Experience conducting financial research and presenting on findings
  • Experience in bringing innovative solutions and processes to create efficiencies in financial management
  • Successful experience providing support and consultation to various stakeholders
  • Highly developed computer skills, including expert knowledge of MS Excel, FIS and HRIS and exposure to business intelligence tools
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of accounting principles
  • Highly attentive to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and execute complex projects and manage conflicting priorities within established timelines
  • Ability to work independently as well as a collaborative team member in a multi-stakeholder environment
  • Strong client service orientation
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, respect matters of a sensitive nature and maintain confidentiality


Assets (Nonessential):

  • Knowledge of Ontario Healthcare Reporting Standards and experience reporting to the Ministry of Health

USW Pay Band 17 -- $105,706 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $135,179. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
