The School of Cities’ mission is to convene urban-focused researchers, educators, students, practitioners, institutions and the general public to explore and address complex urban challenges, with the aim of making cities, urban regions and communities more sustainable, prosperous and just. It is a place where diverse communities can come together to spark new insights and design creative ways for cities, communities and their citizens to thrive. It seeks meaningful collaborations with its partners, recognizing that communities and their members are not sites or objects of research, but actors and collaborators in knowledge-making projects. Using a team-based approach that spans disciplines at the University of Toronto and involves external partners, the School of Cities will tackle the most vexing urban challenges by seeking to understand the fundamental components of a city and how they interact.

The Infrastructure Institute mission is to build local and global expertise in planning for civil and social infrastructure and we seek to refine collaboration between public, private, and the not-for-profit sectors and become Canada’s hub for infrastructure training and interdisciplinary knowledge.
